Big Mining Deal Is Made at Yreka (Special to The Herald) YREKA, Calif., Aug. 17. What Is reported to be the largest min ing transaction completed ' in north ern California since H. C. t atting purchased the Independence mine more than a year ago. came Satur day when J. McKendrick of Pasa dena paid 6,000 as the first pay ment of a 130,000 purchase price for the L. J. Nelson mine seven miles ur the Klamath River from Orleans. Under the terms of the agree ment, installments of 6,000 will be paid every six months until the full amount has been paid. Pos session will be given the new own er August 20. Pelicans Win In Fast Game From McCloud Klamath Kails continued i drive for the pennant yesterday when It took McCloud Into camp. 11 to S. in a game where storm clouds hovered dangerously during the latter stages of the game. With Lefty Mohler pitching good ball, the iviicnns were leading U to 2 up until the fatal seventh, when McCloud shoved five runs ucross the plate and made It a horse-race for a short time. Mohler lost his effectiveness In this Inning. With three men on bases, a McCloud bater knocked the ball owr the fence, and Mohler went to the showers. Street fin ish the game and let McCloud down for the remaining Innings without getting himself in danger. "Frenchy" Dayness pulled one from the clouds in the fourth when he stole home, while the crowd cheered Its approval. McCloud used three moundsmcn In a vain attempt to stop the Pelicans. The championship of the league Will be settled at Weed next Sunday when the Pelicans and Weed battle it out in a game which promises to be the most thrilling of the season. Already local fans are talk ing about the forthcoming game. and it seems almost certain that a special train will be chartered for next week.
