GIVES BUILDING PLANS "Destructive Competi tion" Would Bring Modification Before the railroad com mittee of the chamber of commerce last night was presented a program of pro posed railroad development which would be projected in the Klamath basin bv the ; Southern. Pacific railroad company, providing there was no "destructive compe tition." In other words the S. P. has come to Klamath with this statement: "Here are enough roads to serve this community for years. They will place you in -direct contact with all the producing and consuming sections of United States. But we can not build if we have destructive competi tion. Therefore it is up to you people to line up behind the Southern Pacafic rail road in an effort to keep the Northern lines from enter ing this territory." i Shoup Iffues Statement Paul Shoup, executive vice-president of the South iem Pacific, issued an au thentic statement on the plans of the railroad company with respect to construction in the Klam ,ath territory. He covered the con-istru-'tlon of the three Strahorn. ex tensions ti'jm Sprague River; to Lakeview; to Silver Lake; and "t the upper reaches of t'-ie Williamson river. He announced the contem plated construction of a line from Klamath Falls south to Cornell, 40 miles south of Klamath Falls In California. He pointed out that the Nevada-California offld Eastern from Lakeview south to the Central Pacific will be broad gauged, and I will also connect with the Strahorn I railroad at Lakeview. Such a lino wou'.d pluce Portland 413 miles clos er to eastern markets, via the S. i P. toute and would pluce Klamath Falls 200 mile? closer. The louf. ; tedious route by way of Rosevllle, i California, nnd , the ardotis climb I over tie Slerrus would be avoided I by such a. line, it was pointed out. Silent on Route But till the questions by meniborD I of the rallioad committee proved i unavailing' when It came to dotei -I milling Viere tho proposed eastern 'connection would be aoutoJ. Two alternatives are known t) be con sidered by tho Southern J'aclflc. Omo by way of Lakeview, then south lo ithe Central Pacific.
