The city of Dia mond Lake which is only 7.S3 acres in size boasts more occupants and a more versatile population than any other city approaching its size. The total permanent popula tion this summer is 17 people, this figure including wives and children. AH but three of these are employed by the Diamond Lake company. -.; In the way of business institutions, first of all comes the Diamond Lake store, which is no small emporium. Ethel sends tier bost regards to her many Klamath Falls friends. Lives of Baby Chicks Saved (Special to The Herald) YREKA. Calif.,. July 22. -Seven teen lives were saved yesterday afternoon by Mrs, John L. Borry. assisted by her huaband. Siskiyou's county treasurer, when she started a brisk fire In the range in the kitchen ot her home, set the hot water tap to running and thrust 24 two months old Rhode Island Red chickens into various warm nooks and crannies in an almost vain hope of restoring them to life. The chickens were caught In thoir runs when Yreks was visited with a cold rain storm that recorded .86 of an inch in less than two hours at the forest service station. They crept under hopvines instead of get ting under more substantial cover and when the Berry's returned home, they found 24 of the birds seemingly dead. The hot water and the hot oven, however, brought 17 back to the state where they show no ill effects today ot yesterday's near tragedy. J. W. Maddux Alive; ' Recovers Machine ..i. .;.......,.. J. W. Maddux, of Gold Hill, whose motorcycle ' in Pelican City was found deserted on the road, is not seriously injured, according to Maddux himself, who was riding around town this morning on his motorcycle once again. Maddux had taken a spill yester day when his motorcycle hit Borne loose gravel. He abandoned . the machine temporarily while he was having some minor injuries dressed, and in the mean time tho motor cycle was brought into tho sheriff's office by Ivan Bernard, a truck driver for the state highway com mission. : A blood stained motorcycle led to reports of foul play, which were dispelled this morning when Mad dux put in an appearance. .
