OVER LAI STETSON LAI Old Paul Bunyan Could Have Given W. Tell a Few Points At Inst the profound secret of Mystery Hock at Bear Wallow has come lo light. For ages many theories have been advanced as to how tin: gigantic rock found Us rest ing place In thut historic and beau tiful little meadow. It has been absolutely proven and authentic records verify the fact that Paul iluuyan becatno peeved at Sport, his reversible dog, and hurled this stone at the fleeing animal. His sights were a bit too high, however, and the rock cleared the ridge, lodging at Bear Wallow. The proof is ample the rock is still there anyone doubting can verify the fact by visit ing Bear Wallow himself. Paul Bunyan also deserves credit for originating the idea of land log ging. Prior to his time river log Sprague River Giants to Play Lumberlogue Tbssers Sunday at Langell Valley's Celebration "Boss" Kfchurdson, one of the best bucking horse riders In the Northwest, will don the baseball spangles and do his stuff at Langell Valley next Sunday when The Lum berlogue baseball team takes its ex pected trimming at the bands of the Sprague River Giants. The Sprague Klver lineup as re ceived today shows the famous rider as the right fielder for the timber workers. The ball game is creating a lot of interest among the timber beasts and ought to draw a bunch of fellows from the mills and camps. But the baseball game is but one feature of tho big. barbecue and celebration which Langell Valley is staging to commemorate the open ing of a new Irrigation canal which will carry water to an additional 10, 000 acres of fertile land in that sec tion. Ewauna Mill Has Trouble With Nigger Prompt Action of Les lie Nighton Noted After Accident The piu on ono of the controlling arms of the nigger in tho Ewauna mill broke last Friday, allowing the nigger to lurch forward and break the steam pipes leading to It from the boiler room. Tho steam quick ly filled the rower part of tho mill, and came boiling out of the doors before the valve could be closed. A half-day shut down was required to repair tho damage. While the pipes were being repaired and the nigger put back in place a new piston nnd cylinder head we're put in the main cylinder. Leslie Nighton, cleanup man on the ground floor of the mill, was conspicuous for his prompt action following the accident. When the steam began spurting, Nighton left the mill wjickly. Outside the door ho stumbled and fell. Ho retained his presence of mind, however, and did not attempt to rise, but rounded the corner of the power house on all fours and crawled into a barrel. Bystanders declare that ho Is a natural pacer, and that his form Is far superior to Hint of the famous rating horse, Dun Patch. But soon Paul conceived the Idea of land logging as a faster method. Organizing his lumberjacks, he noon had experts using' pike poles to snake logs over even the rough cstcountry. Even this did not sat isfy the great Paul, whose master mind had already solved out many seemingly impossible problems. His next step was to devise a way to speedily move full length timber.
