Klamath General hospital reports eighteen patients ill with Influenza. Hotrevor, it was stated, that only one or two of this number show any signs of developing pneumonic com plications. For tho bonefit of the public, Dr. O. S. Nciwsom, head of the coun ty health unit Issued the following instructive information concerning the present epidemic, which was re ceived this morning from, the state health department: ."While we do not think there Is causa for sorlous alarm, there is no question that Influenza Is more pre valent than it has been for some time In Oregon. Reports from, other parts of the United States show that there are many cases of the disease. Notwithstanding the great amount of study that has been devoted to influenza, we are still unable to pre scribe measures for Its complete control. It Is Impdsslblo to classify this disease properly until more studies havo been made by the clini cal bacteriologist. "As a result of tho absence of ex act diagnostic criteria, Influenza Is today a 'diagnostic scrap basket Into which has been thrown tho odds and' ends In the way of minor Infections which the bacteriologist Is not yet ready to holp the clinician classify with pronhlon. The . cause of the epidemic, or of the supposedly ex isting sporadic Influenza Is not suro ly known. We are as far as ever from conclusive knowledge as to the source of Influneza. - "Thcro Is undoubtedly. some con nection between the common cold and Influonza.
