Health Unit Gives Instruc
tions to Public Regard'
ins Proper Precautions
With thfe epidemic of Influenza
in Its present light form little more
than La Grlppe-j-stlll spreading In
Klamath Falls and KInmath county,
county health authorities and local
physicians are working over time In
attending to patients and ' taking
proper precautions to prevent de
velopment Into a virulent epidemic,
similar to war time days.
Klamath General hospital reports
eighteen patients ill with Influenza.
Hotrevor, it was stated, that only
one or two of this number show any
signs of developing pneumonic com
plications. For tho bonefit of the public,
Dr. O. S. Nciwsom, head of the coun
ty health unit Issued the following
instructive information concerning
the present epidemic, which was re
ceived this morning from, the state
health department:
."While we do not think there Is
causa for sorlous alarm, there is no
question that Influenza Is more pre
valent than it has been for some
time In Oregon. Reports from, other
parts of the United States show that
there are many cases of the disease.
Notwithstanding the great amount
of study that has been devoted to
influenza, we are still unable to pre
scribe measures for Its complete
control. It Is Impdsslblo to classify
this disease properly until more
studies havo been made by the clini
cal bacteriologist.
"As a result of tho absence of ex
act diagnostic criteria, Influenza Is
today a 'diagnostic scrap basket Into
which has been thrown tho odds and'
ends In the way of minor Infections
which the bacteriologist Is not yet
ready to holp the clinician classify
with pronhlon. The . cause of the
epidemic, or of the supposedly ex
isting sporadic Influenza Is not suro
ly known. We are as far as ever
from conclusive knowledge as to the
source of Influneza. -
"Thcro Is undoubtedly. some con
nection between the common cold
and Influonza. There Boom , to be
cases of common cold which are al
most Indistinguishable clinically,
and ' tho bacteriological findings In
the iiosa and throat of Influenza
