The benefit ot auch proposed, rec
lamatlon and protection will exceed
tbe cost Incurred and any damage
that may be done, and the best Inter
ests of the land aforesaid to be in

owaer of such land a a whole, and
of the public at large, will be pro
moted by the formation and proposed
operations of such district.

and protection Is to provide where
necestary. proper and suitable dikes
to prevent the overflow of waters ot
Upper-Klumatb Lake. 'and to drain
the.iland. by ditches or '.otherwise,
supplementing said works by pump
ing, plants or other methods affording
drainage; ts provide by canals, In
taJces and headgatei and pumps, a
more syctematlc, economical and effi
cient means of Irrigation; and to pro
vldtt protectlou as may be best suited
to accomplish the purpowj. Said

Presbyterian church. Attorney Mark
ot Merrill delivering the address,
after which the audience repaired to
tho I. O. O. P. hall whero the ladles
served a bountiful dinner, at the close
of which a general program was ren
dered consisting of songs, the read
ing cf the" Declaration of'lndepend
ence by Miss lllll. followed by brief
addresses by moro than a doxen of
the citizens? The exvrelsM wens
closed by a stirring address on patri
otism by Dr. Wolfe ot the Presbyter
Ian c hureb and the singing of "My
CouniryTls of Thee." A large num
ber of tbe citizens had gathered to
gether for the occasion and expressed
a desire for more cf such community
Merrill is on the forward move, a
number of new buildings are to be
ere:ted In the near future. Mr. An-?
derson Is now putting up a fine new
store building on Main street. Sev
eral good rains of late have caused
the. dry farmers to greatly rejoice,
and the prospects are for a good bar

A big Tom Thumb wedding is to' be
given at the Presbyterian church this

banker. Is soon to leave town, which
