Working for the uplift of peo ple who aren’t so sure they want to be uplifted is a thankless task to say the least. There is one or ganization in the country with branches all over the eauntry. do ing all in its power to bring our racial group into the realization of its political, civil and all other rights. This organization is the National Association for the Ad vancement of Colored People. It cannot work and carry out this program any farther than the peo ple for whom it is working are willing for them to go which will ingness must be evidenced by dol lars and cents and moral and per sonal backing. There is only one of these branches which is 100 per cent strong, that is, where every member of the colored race in the community is a member of the organization. There should be more and let us in Portland make our city the second to be 100 per cent strong. It can be done. So let’s do it. Some of these people who won't join the association and who are the hardest to interest in the welfare of the race, are the first to complain to the organiza tion when their rights have been abridged or disturbed in any way. The best thing for such people to do is to get on the inside and while the organization does not draw lines, it is only human and natural to be more keenly interested in a member of the organization than one on the outside. It costs only a dollar to become a member for a whole year; why not do it? The dollar you throw away foolishly you could be putting it to good ac count. W hat’t the use. come on and join the association.
