For th Laystte. One of the most useful articles for the layette is the flannel blanket for baby's bath. The bath blanket is not otny an apron for the protection of the mother's gown, but also a aoft warm wrap to Infold the delicate little body of the Infant as It Is taken from the tub. Theso blankets are usually made of a good, heavy weight wool flauuel. aud two yards of material are required. Double the gomls. which gives two lengths of one yard each. Make a tuck in Inch deep where the flannel Is fold ed over and run through It Inch wide wash ribbon of any preferred color, having It sufficiently long to tie around the waist when In use. The edges of this blanket apron may have a binding of wash ribbon corresponding In color to the waist riblton. or they may be almply buttonholed with wash silk. To 8timulat Eytahes. What woman does not wish for long. : curling eyelashes? They are oue of the details that Vaseline pure white vaseline rub bed on with a small brush every night Is a splendid toulc for these much de sired beauties. Keep the eye tightly closed that the grease may reach the roots of stubborn lashes, although If tho vaseline Is fresh and of good qual ity It cannot hurt the eye. In fact, one woman who bus found the remedy sue- cessful says that, on tho contrary, the eyes become brilliant under treatment. w hile the longer lushes make a marked Improvement In the atmearance. An Odd Cushion. A pincushion made -with four tiny cushions Is Indeed a novel and pretty design. In the first place, four cush ions, possibly about three and one-half inches square, aro made of allk and lightly stuffed with hair, sawdust or, what la preferable, white wool. After the four cushions are filled and the edgea trimmed with small r utiles of ribbon each cushlou Is folded to form a triangle, and the connected points are fastened with small rosettes. The four are Joined together by the upper potuta of each triangle and also finish ed with a pretty ribbon rosette. It la quite a pretty style aud something lately fashioned. Glorified Hash. Heat a pint of gravy left from a pot roust or. wake a rich brown sauce, add a cupful each of boiled Spanish chest nuts and French mushrooms, chopped; a teaspoonful each of currant jelly and sherry aud large, wafer thin slices of cold meat. Warm through and serve with points of toast, sliced lemon and wutercress. Tea leaves are Invaluable aa a ineana of cleaning varnished paint. When Buttlclent hnve been laid aside, they should be placed lu a tlu basin full of water and soaked for half an hour. The tea when strained should be used Instead of soap nud water to clean the varnished surfaces. ArtlAcial flowers that hnve lost their first freshness may be restored by holding them over a pan of boiling wa ter for a minute or two. The steam wl'l be found to freshen thiin. CASE FOR VEILS. Then roll cardboard Into narrow rolls an Inch lu diameter and Just long enough that they will slip enslly Into the pockets. If veils are wound smoothly on these rolls and put away In the scented case each time they are taken off their life will be prolonged many weeks. LEARNING TO WALK. How te Tssch 8aby tho Art of Stand ing Alono. Hy the time he Is eleven months old baby w ill usually try to stand alone or even walk n few steps, and before tbla age no effort should In made to hasten blin In this development. lie may be a week or more occasionally scrambling to his feet and holding to a chair with out showing the slightest Inclination to walk. Walking be will do In time, and line he lecomes fascinated with the Joy It Is well to watch that he does not uverdo and strain the leg muscles, not to mention weuken the bones. When an Infant Is learning to walk tenders are excellent, for they give sup port that prevents Injury from sudden fulls. The tender is a movable pen. as it were, lu which there Is a little seat. As the child Iwglris to walk the seat may be removed, aud he can stand up right within the little Inclosure that before many days be will try to push In front of him. lie must not be al lowed to tire himself at this work, and i a few tn luu tea at a time la all that J should lie iiermitted. i Another first nld to walking Is a I lending strap. It consists of a strong but soft licit supported by a couple of strops over the shoulders. They may be made at home of webbing or tine leather. Where the belt loins In the buck there Is a long rein, unJ with this In her hand a mother can frequently prevent baby from falling and bump ing his none or can guide his footsteps. IN THE HOME. An oM'ii (Ire Is certainly a happy fea ture lu It. Readable books aud magazines ylna around loose are one of the Important things. Iu the living room there must be a softly shaded light placed low for read lug and sewing. . Chairs that can be sat upon are a more necessary essentlul than some housewives think. Stilted suits of furniture are a good thing to avoid; also loud papers and highly colored pictures. A carpet that cau be walked on by the family Is much better than one preserved for the sacred feet of stran get's. ' As to tobacco smoke and dust well, .here have been homes with them and places without them that utterly failed to be homes. Cheerfulness aud love and mutual tccommodutlon as to tastes go further to make a real home than overzealous -potlessness and everlasting oversight. Nursery Dishss. A certain amount of entertalnmeut Is provided for children by the dishes which are designed especially for the nursery. -Cups and plates, pitchers, bowls and mugs have fascinating girls and boys pictured In the costumes chil dren of today have learned to know and love from seeing them lu story books nud Illustrated papers. The new nurs ery dishes hove a plalu ground, a yel lowish brown, cream or white, and the Igures are displayed iu -borders or lu targe characters on the sides. Cbildreu ove having their milk brought lu a ream colored mug decorated with a quaint little fulry story girl. Part of he fun of dinner lu the uursery is guessing the stories to fit the charac ters. Te Curl Hair Quickly. To curl hair quickly by . artificial means it must be thoroughly clean and free from oils. Then part the hulr, run t damp not wet comb through It and roll on piece of rolled newspaper. The paper must be a perfect cylinder uot tint aud the hulr very loosely rolled over It and the points pinned together. It will 1h sjitllcleutly curled to dress In half un hour. The secret Is to mere ly dampen the hair. Many make It too wet, aud It takes several fcours for It o dry out. Tlsaker 14 Wetlee. . Department of the Interior. U. 8.
