3—TW MUI City Enterprise, Thursday, Dec. 21, 1961 Firemen-Auxiliary Have Annual Party The annual Firemen and Aux iliary Christmas party was held at the fireball Saturday with a large crowd attending. The evening started with a pot-luck supper and there was an ex change of small gifts. Mrs. Mary Wright, president of the Auxiliary was in charge of the arrangements. The group spent the remainder of the ev ening playing "robber bingo" which created a great deal of hilarity. The electricity went off dur ing the party, due to the storm, but an auxiliary unit was used. RAMBO’S RAMBLINGS Ry Goldie Rambo I was reading an article in a Salem paper the other day writ ten by a m mister that certain ly' went along with my way of thinking. It was entitled -‘‘Enjoy Lafe as you Live Day by Day''- the minister was telling about see ing some friends come from a ticket window at the train de pot after buying tickets to New York. The couple had worked hard for 35 years, scrimping and saving whenever possible in order to do some of the things they wanted to when they retired In the next morning's paper the minister read of the mans death. It was a sad affair. Many of the comforts of life and its day by day pleasures he had denied himself and his family in order to save for his old age. Certainly, I believe in being thrifty and having some mon ey, if possible, for emergencies but it is a mistake to assume that old age is the most glor ious time of life and to save all our pleasures until then. Living is a day by day business and not something to be kept wrapped up until a more fav orable time. How many times have you known people that never got to take that anticipated trip that they had saved for all their lives. Will say that right now —I probably am going against my theory as we are saving little by little for a trip to Ha waii before we are “on the shelf” in fact we have had the money several times, but have had to use it for other purposes but THIS TIME! Who knows. Speaking of where we are or are not going in this hurried life we live nowadays, here are a few thought-provoking lines. Take time to work; it is the price of success. Take time to think, it is the source of power. Take time to play, it is the secret of youth. Take time to read, it is the foundation of knowledge. Take time to worship; it is the highway of reverence and washes the dust of earth from your eyes. Take time to enjoy your friends, it is the source of hap piness. Take time to love, It is the one sacrament of life. Take time to dream, it hitch es the soul to the stars. Take time to laugh, it is the singing that helps with life’s loads. Take time to plan. It is the secret of being able to do the first nine things. first year that I haven't had what we call the "Qtristmas Spirit.” Perhaps the flu bug took it out of me. Or perhaps it's being another year older. Anyhow I hope that all of you have a pleasant holiday and enjoy the many family gather ings and all the things that are done traditionally in each family to give it a special meaning. May the New Year bring blessings to all and the hope that this topsy turvy world we live in will always have its joys as well as its sorrows. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Gladys Edwards Heads Lyons Club LYONS Esther Danielson, Letitia Lengacher. Marian Pen nington and Hannah Robinson were hostesses for the meeting of the Garden Club Wednesday afternoon in the fire place room of the Methodist Church. Gladys Edwards presided over the meeting due to the absence of Pat Blum. Election of of ficers was the main business. Elected were Gladys Edwards, president; Esther Danielson, vice president; Laura Neal, secretary-treasurer. Laura Neal, historian gave a very in teresting report of the year. It was voted to donate $10 to help buy lights for the city Christ mas tree and the children gifts brought by the members will be taken to the Haven School at Turner. Following the meeting the Christmas party was held with gifts for their silent sisters, names were revealed and new ones drawn. Present were Martha Cruson, Bea Hiatt, Gertrude Weidman, Laura Neal, Celene Taylor, Virgene Scott, Pearl Hudson, May Quier, Alma Spellmeyer, Betty Carter, Alice Huber, Lot tie Grosso, Ruth Cotton, Eva Bressler, Dorothy Downer, Gladys Edwards, Alta Bodeker, Donna Asmussen, Mabel Down ing, Clara Miller and the host esses. Mehama Women's Club Has Holiday Party Friday Night MEHAMA — Mrs. Gerald Rockwell and Mrs. Bonnie Wag ner were hostesses for the Christmas party and meeting of the Mehama Women s club which was held in the Fellow ship room of the church Fri day evening. December 15. The street light committee report ed again that there was still quite a little owed on the lights for the year but that sev eral had not made donations and that the amount due should be reduced. Mrs. Harold Longfellow was appointed chairman of the Com munity Club awards and Mrs Bonnie Wagner is co-chairman. Any club member who is un able to contact either of the ladies before Wednesday of each week was asked to leave their points in the church kit chen where they could be pick ed up. The coffee lids that the , club is saving, may also be , left at the church. Following the meeting a gift exchange of home baked goods was held and refreshments were served by the hostesses to the 11 members and one guest present for the evening.
