Wright Truck Lines Makes Growth To Keep Pace With Area Needs Heart Sunday is Coming | MEHAMA Bi Mrs. John laeiera One of the services in any area that expects to invite new industry is transportation service. The Canyon area has good transportation facil-1 ities both by rail and truck. For this reason, The Enterprise this week is giving a resume of the growth of the Wright Truck Line, which serves this area. It follows below. Started regular schedule operation in March 1927 as owner-driver, with one truck and confidence that it could be done. In a little over a year an other truck was added and a driver. Shortly after that the operation of a line to Scio was purchaseed and an other truck added. In 1934 the permit to operate be tween Portland, Dallas and Independ ence area was purchased. Mrs. Art An derson was in charge of the pro gram which was on “Christ’s Way, Every Day.” Mrs. James Hardy and Mrs. Chris McDonald assisted in presenting the program and in the devotions. It was decided to have an all-day meeting March 14, at which time mission sewing will be done and a pot luck luncheon will be enjoyed at noon as usual. Discussion was held on changing the name of the society. Everyone was asked to think it over and bring their suggestions to the March meeting. Mrs. Ercill Wilson and Mrs. Keith Phillips were ap pointed on a committee to purchase the drapes for fellowship hall. The Charles Crook home was the scene Sunday of a large family gath ering honoring the 74th birthday of Mrs. Eva Crook. Present for the day were: Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crook and family; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Crook and daughters and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Crook all from Port land; Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Seamster from Salem, Mrs. Eva Crook, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Crook and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Crook. They reported a beautiful day there. Mr. and Mrs. Vernard Bloom and family moved recently into the La Verne Gould house they have pur chased. The Bloom family formerly lived in Stayton. The Junior Owens family visited | the zoo near Woodburn Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Tillman Rains and Debra are staying at the Ben Miller home while Mr. Miller is in Mon- tana. Cub Scout Den 5, Pack 81 has been ' divided into two dens. The fourth grade boys will remain in Den 5 with Mrs. Milton Roten as den mother and the second and third grade boys are | now in Den 7 with Mrs. Junior Owens I as den mother. Both dens meet Tues-1 day afternoons at the church. Den 7 meets at 3 and Den 5 at 4. The Intermediate troop of Girl Scouts met at the church Thursday afternoon at 4 o’clock for their regu lar meeting and a Valentine party. The second and third grade girls of Brownie troop 136 invited their mothers to a Valentine party at the church Wednesday afternoon at 2:30. An investiture ceremony was also held for Susanne Cutting who re cently joined the troop.
