Queen Draga, of Servla, who is charg ed with plotting to steal the throne for her sister's infant son, whom she is try ing to pass off as her own on young King Alexander, is a wonderfully as tute woman, who has defeated the Servian parlia ment, the powers of Europe and the bitter hatred of the former Queen Na talie In every Joust i she has had with ' them. Al- though very much older than he, she won his love and was married to him in spite of the fact that Natalie ami Milan resorted to no end of intrigue to stop him, and in spite of the fact that his parliament threatened to revolt. The czar finally consented and the for mer maid took her place on the throne which her former mistress had occu pied. Draga is said to be so unpopular in Servla that she does not like to ap pear in public. Her Influence over young Alexander is all powerful, and thus far she has won in all her con tests with the people. Her father was a colonel In the Russian army, and through his influence she was given her place at the court of Queen Natalie. “Packing Off of Widows.” A pastime which obtains among the farm classes of Corea, known as the "packing off of widows,’' consists of a raid by some disconsolate widower and hla friends on some village known to contain a young widow, the forcible abduction of the lady in question and her marriage to the widower. An in stance of this kind has recently come to our notice. A widower living in one of the villages of Kangwlia with eleven friends went to a hamlet close to the walls of Kangwha City, where a widow lived and seized and carried off, after somewhat of a battle, a young lady. It so happened, however, that they had mistaken the house, and un fortunately got hold of the wrong lady. Early the next morning an indignant posse came in pursuit, but the men who had committed the dastardly deed succeeded in eluding them. The young lady, however, was rescued, and after the house of the widower and Its con-1 tents had been completely demolished she was escorted home in triumph by her husband and hla friends.—Kobe Chronicle.
