MARRIAOS AND DIVORCE.
Last week Senator Dolph reported I

On last Thursday the senate took
up the joint »«solution introduced
by Dolph, proposing a constitution,
al amendment on the subject of
marriage and divorce, aud prohibit
ing bigamy and polygamy. Dolph
addressed the senate in support of
the joint resolution.
And spoke of the sacred ness of
the marriage relations, of the many
varying marriage and divorce laws
in the several states .of the union
and of ths propriety of having an
uniform system governing marriage
and di voice throughout the United
States. He denied that he was in-
flnenced in introducing the resolu
tion by any desire to pave the way for
admission of Utah as a state; and
after giving a sketch of the history
of the Mormon church declared his
on public land», with a recommend
ation that it pataca bill forfeiting
the land grants in Oregon of the
three following wagon-roads: First,
the road from Eugene City to the
eastern boundary of the state;
second, the road from Albany to the
eastern boundary of the state, and
third, the road from Dalles City, on
the Columbia^ river, to Fort Boise.
Hon. p Daniel Manning,who was
compelled to resign the secretary
ship of the treasury owing to failing
health,' died last Saturday. Mr.
Manning was one of the ablest fi
nanciers of his time. He was a
credit to the Cleveland cabinet, and
did much to make the present ad
