Portland. The offices were opened there Monday and during the week work has been done on advertising the celebration, and various committees have been working from the head quarters. The Imperial hotel is lo cated in the very center the Portland business district and is very popular with eastern Oregon people. Life takes some funny twists and turns. Three years ago \V. J. Carlson, proprietor of the Red & White store, was idle and could find no work. He and Mrs. Carlson owned the prop erty where they live, opposite the Oregon-Washington fox farm on the highway, and they concluded to create a job by establishing a grocery store. They built the building they now occupy and stocked it with groceries. Business grew steadily form the first and Mr. Carlson ceased to worry about work. With the building of the dam and the steady growth of Cascade Locks, the grocery business has gained momentum and today the Red & White is doing an excellent business throughout the Bonneville dam area. Birthdays o f Mrs. Jansen Herman and Alex McEchern were celebrated at a delightful dinner at Penn's T a v ern Tuesday night. Those present were Mrs. J. A. McEchern, Mrs. H. and Jansen Herman. All are from D. Bracken, Mrs. .Alex McEchern J. A. McEchern, president of the Seattle. Mr. McEchern is a son of General Construction company.
