HOOD RIVJ R GLACIER, THUB8DAY. AUGUST 4, 1910 PERMANENT FAIR Editor Glacier: Lust fall a move ment was started to incorporate, buy ground, erect a building and have a permanent home for an annual fruit fair, but not sufficient support was given to warrant the board to eo head. Too many of our people wanted to wait and see the prospect for this year. This summer it was thought for a time suitable quarters were to be pro vided which could be rented, but this failed to materialize and Htfain the board have t.iken up the building pro position. An option on a suitable location has been secured and we have been soliciting subscriptions for stock on a proposition which it seems can be made to pay expenses. We are not having the support that such a movement warrants. No one questions or doubts the many benefits to be derived from the fruit fair, but ton many are willing to set by and illlr.il l.n nttirr follnur til do the work and put up the necessary funds to do the business. The answer to our q jistion lies with the people of Hood River and iiood Kivor valley. If we are to have a fair (and we never needed one more than this year) we in ust K t busy. A building must be erected and it is up to you fellow citizens to provide the funds. C. I). Thompson, Sec'y Board. public press. Maine stopped her gum-chewing long enough to signify she did. "Well, after you left, he said some awful nice things to me. Ho said my arms reminded him of the Venus do Milo's. " August Lippincott's. ATTRACTS ATTENTION The July number of the Pacific Coast Implement & Vehicle Kecord takes up a page with a write-up of the Gilbert-Vaughan Implement company, of Hood Kiver, which it characterizes as an enterprising retail establishment handling implements, vehicles and automobiles.' The article which is ac companied by photographs is as follows: "We show herewith photos of the establishment of the Gilbert-Vaughan Implement Co., of Hood Kiver, Ore., and of Messrs. C. F. Gilbert and C, 11. Vaughan, the proprietors. The Gilbert-Vaubgan Implement Co. suc ceeded J. K. Nickleson about a year ago, and during the past year they have increased their stock and doubled their sales. They tell ub that they use much advertising space in their local papers, and believe it pays them. They are the only exclusive implement and vehicle dealers in town, and have an attractive establishment. The first floor is given over to their general sales and display room. The second floor is their vehicle repository. The basement is used for storing wagons and heavy machinery. They have every modern convenience and facility for handling thier stock, as well as their oflice equipment. Hoth members of the firm take an active part in the work. Mr. Vaughan is the President of the Business Men's Association, of Hood Kiver. As will bo seen by thu photo of their establishment they are handling automobiles to a considerable extent, and this is another evidence of what we have frequently called atten tion to, of the implement and vehicle dealers taking on lines of automobiles.
