LOT ANGELES BANK ROBBED OF $29,000 The faot has just been made public says a dispatch co tbe Telegram tbat tbe First National bank of Los An geles was robbed of a sum said to amount tu 29,000 some time between last Saturday and Monday. Detec tlves have been nt work on tbe case, but It is stated that no clews to Ibe tobbers bave been found, aud no cr rests have been made. Tbe loss of tbe money was discovered when tbe bank opened for business on Monday morning. Whether it was taken by no expert tbtet after tbe close of tbe bank on Saturday, or was removed after tbe vault bad been looked for tbe nigbt, has not been determined AH tbe officers of the bank refuse to discuss tbe matt-r. President Jobn Butler admitted that tbe robherj had ocoorred, but said tbat in view of the fact tbat tbe bank was insured for l.'S.OOU witb a casuslity company, tbe loss to tbe stockholders would be less than 850O0. Tbe bank is capitalized at 1100,000, with a surplus of 'J0,000, and has undivided profits of $20,000. Some additional details were dis closed during tbe day. It has devel oped that tbe time-lock on the vault did not work Saturday nigbt, aud tbat the combination lock alone pro tected tbe fund. The money must bave been iabstracted either during the few mioutes after tbe cash was counted Saturday aud before it was carried into tbe vault or was taken out ot tbe vault Saturday nigbt or Sunday by someone in possession ot tbe combination. The missing money is tn currency. Sixteen hundred dollars in silver was uutouched. All Southern California banks bave been advised cf tbe numbers ol tbe stolen bill, and are on tbe lookout for tbem. It was stated at tbe Pinkerton office today that important develop ments might result before tomorrow in ferriting out tbe mystery.
