The national apple show at Spokane to be held December T to VI will be largely an Inland Empire show. Tbe bulk of tbe prizes can only te com peted for by growers In that section of tbe country, and there will prob ably be but few exhibits from Hood River. About tbe only prizes worth competing for that Hood River will bo eligible to enter, is the oarload prize and a few two-box and small displays. Many of the prizes are for apples of the commoner varieties whloh we do not try to raise, muoh less try to advertise as samples of Hood River produot, aud we are lim ited to small displays of four or five varieties. Thomas, an aged, well known and respected resident of the Helmont district died very suddenly hn unay morning of heart failure. Mr. Thom as was 71 years of age and bad been a resident of Hood River valley for some time. He was an old soldier and is survived by bis wife and seven children. Three of bis children are residents of Sherman county and tbe otber lour reside at Hood River. The funeral took place Thursday morning at 10 o'olock from tbe valley Christian cburcb. Rev. McCoimic officiating. Interment was n Idle- wtlde Cemetery under the direction of J. E. Nichols and under the aua pices of tbe U. A. R. Lenz-Illount The Catholic churcb was the sceno of a beautiful wodding yesterday morning when Miss Elizabeth Uertha Lenz was nni'ed in wantage to 'Mr. Telloford W. lilount, by Father Job manu. The church was decorated with flowers Hud greens tind made a pretty back ground far the bride wbo wore a handsome gowu of wnite sueiseene silk made direotoire and trimmed with meobliu luce. She wore a liberty satin Bash wltb bows at tbe end. Her tulle veil was fastened tu her hair with a wreath of wbite flowers. She carried a shower bouquet of white car nations. Her maid of honor. Miss Llizabetb Mohr, wore a striking princess gown of white Mohair trimmed with pink liberty silk rucbings and she wore pink rosettes in her bair aud carried a beautiful buuob of plnkloai nations. Tbe best man was tbe bride's broth er, Joe Lenz. Preoesding and dining the cere mony, Mrs. C. U, Hlnriolia played t tie weddiig music, which ended in Men delssobu's Triumphant Wedding March. Immediately following the cere mony, tbe bridal party and immedi ate relatives onlr went to the groom's borne for the wedding breakfast. Ibe house was bwutlfully deooiated lor tbe happy occasion. Today Mrs. Anna Lenz, mother of tbe bride, will give a banquet at ber country home at Odell aud cover will be laid for over fifty. This evening tbere will be a reoeptiou at tbe bride's bmoe for tbe many friends of tbe bap py couple to meet. Mr. and Mrs. lilount will reside with tbe groom's parents and will he at home after January the first. Turkeys Scarce and High Turkeys this year in Hood River were at a premium and tho ruling prices were from 30 to 35 cents with the demand far greater than the sup ply. In Portland the supply was so small that tbe Oregonlan saya someone in Portland may have to go without turkey this Thanksgiving. I lie sup ply, as was feared, proved small for the growing trade of the city, so pur chasers would do well to get out early this morning and do their buying, it they bare not already done so. Itecause of the shortage, prices are bigh 27 to DO cents a pound at re tailbut, judging from the way busi ness was booming at the markets yes terday, Portlauders do not begrudge paying this steep prioo for the royal bird.
