Huxley, manager ot tbe Ap ple Growers' Union, returned Sunday from Chicago and the east, where be spent a couple of weeks, lie found that the fancy Hood River apples were unknown on tbe Cblosgo mar ket. There were a tew seoond grade Hpitzenbergs there from Rood River, but tbe No. 1 apples went to New Voik. Ail tbe Cbloago apple men who be saw admitted it hat tbe Hood Kivers were tbe best keeper that tbey received. Tbey bave been get ting Washington apples, but tbey are uow beginning to go to pieces. Until this year tbe Jonathan bas been tbe leading red apple on tbe Chicago market, but Bpitzenbergi were beginning to bave tbe prefer ence, aud brouebt more money for the first time this year. Tbe first of January bas been tbe limit to whiob they could bold Jonathans, Colorado Wiuesans following six weeaa later. During the months of January and 1'ebruary Chicago would be a good market for out Hpitzenbergs. A num oer of tbe commission men said tbat no attempt bad been made to go after a fanov trade for bign priced applet. but tbey are well satisfied tbat a large quantity of fanoy Hpitzenbergs could be sold oo tbat market at flew lorn prices, and a number are willing to undertake it next year. Cannot Celleet Road Tax from City, By the decision of the Supieme Court in tbe case ot tbe City of Eu gene against Lane county, tbe city will be ahead something less tban $8'J00. The case was one in wbiob the coun ty collected road taxes claimed by tbe city, amounting to 10300.
