TWO YEARS AGO
We put in a small plctura framing de
partment,
TODAY our FRAMING DEPART
MENT is the LARGEST IN THE CITY.
WHY?
Because we have made a study of
this department. We make numer
ous visits to the large art stores and
pick up NEW IDEAS IN FRAMING.
Our stock of moulding is always new
and the patterns nifty. Our work
has to be absolutely the best or a
frame does not go out of tbe shop.
We have been forced to build a room
especially for this department and
have fitted it with the latest tools for
framing.
No old stock to work off
It w ill pay you to look at uur Stock
when in need of a frame.

Manager Huxley Ret rn.
II. M. Huxley, manager ot tbe Ap
ple Growers' Union, returned Sunday
from Chicago and the east, where be
spent a couple of weeks, lie found
that the fancy Hood River apples
were unknown on tbe Cblosgo mar
ket. There were a tew seoond grade
Hpitzenbergs there from Rood River,
but tbe No. 1 apples went to New
Voik. Ail tbe Cbloago apple men
who be saw admitted it hat tbe Hood
Kivers were tbe best keeper that
tbey received. Tbey bave been get
ting Washington apples, but tbey
are uow beginning to go to pieces.
Until this year tbe Jonathan bas
been tbe leading red apple on tbe
Chicago market, but Bpitzenbergi
were beginning to bave tbe prefer
ence, aud brouebt more money for
the first time this year. Tbe first of
January bas been tbe limit to whiob
they could bold Jonathans, Colorado
Wiuesans following six weeaa later.
During the months of January and
1'ebruary Chicago would be a good
market for out Hpitzenbergs. A num
oer of tbe commission men said tbat
no attempt bad been made to go after
a fanov trade for bign priced applet.
but tbey are well satisfied tbat a large
quantity of fanoy Hpitzenbergs could
be sold oo tbat market at flew lorn
prices, and a number are willing to
undertake it next year.
Cannot Celleet Road Tax from City,
By the decision of the Supieme
Court in tbe case ot tbe City of Eu
gene against Lane county, tbe city
will be ahead something less tban
$8'J00.
The case was one in wbiob the coun
ty collected road taxes claimed by tbe
city, amounting to 10300. Tbe de
cision also ...lows interest from Jane
1, 1906, amounting to about S500, and
this year the county oolleoted over
$:O00 of what is decided to be tbe
city's money.
I lour SliU safe Blown Up.
Sunday nlgbt tbelsafe of tbe Hood
River Milling Co. was blown or, but
no money waa secured, Mr. Uessllng
having removed the small amonnt of
tbange left on band after banking
hours. Ibe robbers gained entrance
by unlocking the doora with a skele
ton key.
Marshal Ganger waa notified Mon
day morning and made an investiga
tion, but found no due, toe roooere
bavmg evidently gotten aateiy away
before tbe robbery war discovered.
Hnow 4 upson found tbat tbe rou
bers bad entered their shop and taken
a aledge, brace and bit and chisels.
Tbey either found a door unlocked or
gained entrance by use of skeleton
keys.
Keir a caas drag store was also en
tered tbe nlgbt previoua and a few
dollari taken from tbe mcney drawer.
Entrance waa sained through tne baok
door. Although there were keys on
tbe inside of two doora, they were
poshed out from the outside by nip
er4 and tbe doors unlocked with
akeleton keya. Tbo faot tbat tbey did
not even take an tbe money in tne
drawer, having left pennies and niok-
els, makes the affair look as though
tbe robbers were atter bigger game,
perhaps tbe jewelry store next door,
but were unable to get In or were
soared away, it is probably tbo work
of a gang of professionals.
