Magazine Boosts Hood River. In the June issue of the Pacific Northwest the following tefeienoe is made to Hood River in a general sketch of the Columbia river basin: Before reaobina these, however, the nomeseeker going east from Portland passes through Hood Rivei valley, just east of the Cascades, where at the present time the apple grower is king and where the finest apples in the United States are produoed. Ibis valley, though small, has made a name for itself in almost every fruit market in the world, through the ex- oeilenoe of its apples and strawber ries. Irrigation has been a potent factor in the production of this beautiful valley, I be apple orop ot this vallev annua ly reaohes about 60,000 boxes, wbion bring all the way from $1.50 to $3 a box in the markets of the east and London. The strawberry orop of this valley averages perhaps 90.000 crates of 24 pounds each, which adds to the wealth ot this valley $150,000 annuany. Fonr Thousand Acres Snrveed. The Stanley-Smith Lumber Co. has surveyed and placed upon the market 40UU acres of stump land to be nis posed of in 10 acre tracts. The general slope ot this tract oi luna is in an easterly direc tion, whioh makes it all the more val uable lor fruit growing pui poses. In conversation with Frank Davenpoit, one of tbe members ot tbe company, we learned that any amount of this land will be disposed of to a single individual. Ine purpose of surveying it in smaller traots was to enabie the buyer with oapital to become tbe possessor of a portion of this land. The compa ny believes that it is better to disDose of it in smaller traots as this will be more ocuducive to tbe general pros perity of the valley. We are personal ly acquainted with the members ot this company and have always known tbem to follow out tbe lines of strict honesty in their business dealings. Mr. Davenpoit stated that much oi this land would be sold as low as $2.50 per acre. We are confident that anv communications sent to tbem from parties abroad will be given their best attention.
