The county court will be in cession tomorrow. Brother Flagg seems desirous of Squaring himself with the Clatska jiie cony ntion, of 1904, when and whre he legged so earnestly for Williamson. No one regrets the verdict in the Williamson case, except certain members of the Mitchell faction, whj-e abnormal taste for public pap can never oh oatiated. J. J. Underwood,' Noma com missioner at the Lewii and Cbrk JCxpobivion las j'Ht received from Ahs-kH a specimen of tin ore weigh ing 450 tounds. The specimen contains CO per cent tin, and is Worth twer,iy fnts a potiiid. The totol admission V) the Lewis and Clark Exposition up to Sept. 27 was 2,066,5 45. It i expected that the grand total will he not less than 2.500,000 a better record tbaa wa? eyei before made by an enterprise of similar magnitude. The Lewis and Clark Exposition closes at h-ilf past eleven o'clock Saturday night, October 14. It was originally intended that Oct. 15 should be the closing day, but as this date fell on a Sunday, the change was made. The Fair has been a tremendous success. Tbe livestock show at the Lewis & Clark Exposition, which closed September 29, was the crowning feature of the frair. It was much better attended than was the live stock show at St. Louis and in some ways superior. Tbe showing 'vi "shorthorns was the beat ever made in America. The Mist seems considerably ag itated over" the conviction of the latest batch of land fraudists, es pecially the congressmen (excuse the travesty) Williamson, and de votes a half column of its valuable space to a doleful exhibition of its editors feelings il ereat. The Mist admits that Williamson "turned the trick" hut seems to intimate that punishment should be supei. ded betaufe "they are by no means among the thief beneficiaries of the frauds perpetrated upon the pub lic domain." The Mist further states that "it is a matter of gen eral knowledge that the crime for which Mr. Williamson was con victed was not considered by the people of Oregon, to unfit a man for t'le association of hii fdliow men." Such an expression is worthy the effort f the most lurid journalist in the country, even the editor of the Police Gazette would turn green with envy should it niK't his eye. We desire to know if by ' fellow men" the editor has in mind the Mitchell faction f the republican party, or the mem bers in fair standing, or common decency? We are unable to con ceive of a rnind ro obtuse, a men tality 80 atrophied, a conscious so enfeebled, as to desire the asr-ocia tion of a convicted purjurer or one guilty of subornation of purjury. it is not alone the fraudulent and illegal acquisition of the land for which he stands convicted, that in deed is shight in comparison with having induced his unsophisticat ed neighbors to puriure them selves; it is unimportant when estimated with the crime of having been false to his official oath, to his country and his State; it is as nothing to infinity when a man in his position so lowers the moral tone of tbe country, and no puniuhment can he too sever. Secretary Hitchcock is the custo dian of the public domain, and is responsible, for it proper manage ment, to the people; if his stren uous " attempts to preserve it trom despoliation by thieves, big and little, are to be met by leniency and furgivenese, he tiny as well re sign and his office m alxjIiclxVl Begin to make preparations for the Oregon State fair to bo held at Salem next year. Brother Kltgg must have a fellow feeling for Williamson and Mitchell, at least it would apjKiir so from tbe way he rushes to their defence. The evening of the last day of the Lewis & Clark Exposition has b en designated as Goode Night, in honor t II. W. Goode, presi dent of the Exposition. Secretary ilitchkocc having ex ceeded his authority, by saying that those guilty of sulornalion of perjury should receive the full penalty, it is now up to the Mist editor to have him removed.
