Three Accidents Reported in County
Three accidents were reported
on Jackson County highways
yesterday, with only moderate
damage and no injuries report
ed, state police said.

SALEM (UPI) - Don't rash
down to the motor vehicles of
fice Thursday morning in hopes
of getting one of the new three
letter, three - number license
plates, the motor vehicles office
cautioned today.
While the new style auto li
cense plates will go into use
Jan. 2, car owners will not re
ceive them when they renew
their licenses.
The new style plates will be
issued to persons who buy new
cars, or move into the stale,
and as replacements for lost or
damaged plates. The transition
to the new style is expected to
take several years.
The department's announce
ment was to discourage those
who might have hoped to get a
low combination of letters and
numbers.
Gilford. 52, Tort Bragg, and
James Lester Sheals Jr., 21,
Medford, collided at Stewart
Ave. and Orchard Home Drive.
The Sheals' car slid through the
stop sign at Stewart Ave. in
front of the Gifford car, state
police said. Sheals was cited for
failure to stop at a stop sign.
A pickup truck driven by
George Samuel Woodley, 49,
Fort Klamath, Ore., and a gas
tank truck driven by Edmond
Ray Berge, 45, Medford, collid
ed on C.-ater Lake Highway
near Eagle Point. Berge at
tempted to make a left turn
while Woodley was attempting
to pass, state police said.
A horse owned by Delmar
Gene Owen, 4374 South Pacific
Highway, had to be killed after
it was struck by a car on U.S.
99 at the north edge of Phoenix,
state police said. The driver,
William Thomas Lumpkin, 25,
Talent, said the horse ran out
in front of him.
