Olympic Games Athletes May Win Clothing Prizes Bv WALTER LOGAN NEW YORK (UPI) The 150 American men and women athletes taking part in the IX Olympic Winter Games next Jan. 29 in Innsbruck, Austria, may not win all the gold med als but if there are prizes for being well - dressed they could win hands down. For the past several weeks the athletes have been going in small Rronps to headquarters of the United States Olympic Ap parel Committee on Park Ave nue to he fitted in parade and ski oulfils and after ski out fits thai may make them the talk of Innsbruck. The colors are red, while and blue, of course, but the clothes mill encomnass Ihe latest trend- wltinri fashions and fnbric with a heavy emphasis on stretch not only In the actual racing Girl Scouts Firefly Patrol The Firefly Patrol of Girl Scout Troop i:i9 took tray favors to Rogue Valley Memorial Hos pital on December 20. Decora tive candles were made by put ting gliltcr and sequins on small jars and placing votive candles in them. Wo have been learning how lo plan a Scout's Own, which is a ceremony expressing the spirit of Girl Scouting. Kaye Macio lck, Julie Clarke, Joan Boehnke and Sandra Boulware gave a Scout's Own with an Autumn theme. Carolyn Berry, Beth White, and Robin Murray used ski wear but in the leisure and parade clothes. For the men the leisure and traveling clothes include a soft shoulder, 3-butlon Navy blue blazer with the U. S. Olympic crest on the breast pocket. The fabric is an 11 ounce polyester and worsted blend with hori zontal stretch to accommodate flexing muscles. The grey glen plaid lining is pleated to give too. For the record Iherc isn't any breast pockel. It was nmitled for the sake of neatness but the manufacturer thoughtfully lucked one away inside so the athlete can have it sewed on afler Ihe games it he should tire of his Olympic crest. The notions are plain brass and Bold ones would bo better. For parading, mo mazer is worn with a pair of medium gray slacks, a" blend of acrilan and rayon which makes them wash and wear, a white button down shirt and red, while and blue roeimenlnl striped tie. Shoes and socks are black The women's leisure costume is a trim and easy lining v- neck jumper in gray worn wilh a classic long-sleeved shirt in flame red acrilan. The Olympic committee suggests low-heeled black pumps and bags wilh this. The parade unilorms wnicn can be used for racing arc more spectacular. The back ground (or belli men and wom en is flag blue wilh red and white racing stripes down the sides. The material is a stretch combination of nylon and worst ed. The stretch in the jackets is lateral and vortical In the pants Ihe jackets hang loose at ihe waist if a skier falls Winner Announced The winner of the annual DAR Good Citizens Contest was an nounced at the last meeting of Crater Lake Chanter, Daugh ters of the American Revolu tion, at Girls Community Club. Mrs. Paul 0. Weidner, chair man of the Rood citizens com mittee, announced that five high schools in Jackson County had participated in the DAR Good Citizens Contest and that Belli Biden of the Prospect High School is the winner. The Good Citizens girl from each of the five high schools and their mothers will be guest of honor of the chapter at a tea in April at which time a pin and award will be presented lo each one. Members answered roll call by displaying or describing an antique which belonged to their family. Included in the display were an album, gun, portion of a newspaper printed on wall pa per, sandwich glass, jewelry, china, silver and a small tea chest. A group of songs appropriate to the Christmas season sung by the Rev. David R. Brown, accompanied by Gregg Smith, was the opening number of the program. A program on the "Origin of 1 Christmas Celebrations," ar ranged by Mrs. T. J. Gifford, chairman of the program com mittee, was given by members and included the use of mistle toe, holly, Christmas tree, can dles and yule log. The Rev. and Mrs. Brown and Gregg Smith were guests of the chapter. The meeting closed with a gift exchange. Listers Here For Holidays Mr. and Mrs. H. Lawrence Lister and daughters, Jennifer and Cheryl, of Portland are among Christmas week guests in the city. They arrived Sun day to visit Mrs. Lister's moth er, Mrs. Jack M. hartley, daughter Brcnda, and son Brent, until Friday at their home, 1408 Fortune Drive. Mrs. Hartley's son, Michael, sludent at Oregon State Univer sity, is spending the holidays at Ihe Mammoth Lakes ski resort in California, where he worked last summer.
