Kenneth Lee Ashley (Landls photo) Rogue River Residents Honored at Club Party nOGUB RIVER-Senior resl dents and other invited guests were honored at an annual Christmas party given by Rogue River Civic Improvement Club December 15 in the club. The Rev. Henry Holsinger, Wlmer, gave the invocation and read the Christmas story from the Bible. Special guests were Mr. and Mrs. William Ford, Grants Pass. Mr. Ford sang, accom panied by Mrs. Ford at the piano and the two presented a duet accompanied by Mrs. Orva Jean Cruise. Mrs. Ford also led group singing; Mrs. Rollin Sliehl and Mrs. Lynabel Deck gave readings. Mrs. Ella Mac Farlane, Grant Pass, mother of Mrs. Ford was a guest. Mrs. William White, program chairman, gave the welcoming address. Refreshments were served at tables decorated in the holiday motif. At the guest table were two members of the club, holders of lifel me honorary memberships. Mrs. Jerusha Moore, who is 87 years old and Mrs. Lulu 1 roller, who has been a member of the club for 37 years. Other club members sealed at the guest table were Mrs. Pearl Martin, vice president, who presided for the president, Mrs, Robert Rowlison; Mrs. II. J. Stephens, homo life chairman for Die first district, Oregon Federation of Women's Clubs, ot which the Rogue River club is an affiliate and Mrs. Ralph 0. Chapin, slate chairman ol citizenship division, OFWC Mrs. Deck, district CARE chairman, assisted wilh the sorvine. A Christmas tree decoralcil the room entrance and plural beneath it were gifts for chil dren ot the Chemawa Indian School. The club joins wilh other OFWC clubs in sending gills to the school. Mrs. Albert Bobrowski was accompanist for the group sing ing from Christmas carols books donated to the club through Doug Hughes, Grants Pass. The Christmas tree had been donated by Mrs. Hugh Ellis. Serving with Mrs. White in arranging the party were Mrs. Beryl Ingle and Mrs. E. P. Mac- Farlane. Refreshments were prepared and planned by Ihe serving com mittee, Mrs. Edward Burkoll, Mrs. Mary Williamson and Mrs. Anna Classick. Rogue River Republican Women Elect ROGUE RIVEH - Mrs. Ralph 0. Chapin was elected president of the Rogue Wvcr Republican Women's Club during a no-host luncheon meeting held recently in Rogue Riviera Dining Inn. Mrs. Don Neilson presented Ihe slale of nominees for two-year terms of office and the club members voted to accept the full slale. Mrs. Walter Kasworm was elected first vice president; Mrs. Sam Bellah, second vice president; Mrs. Raymond Grecnhill, secretary and Mrs. Harold W. Salter, treasurer. Installation ceremonies will be held in January. Mrs. Lynabel Deck, retiring president, and Mrs. 11. J. Ste phens, gave a ioinl rcporl on activities of Ihe Grants Pass Teen Age Republican Club. Tentative plans for a mem hershin lea to be held In Febru nrv were discussed. The next Advcntist Church December 15 at 8 o'clock in the evening. Elder Lyle Comfort, M il o, Ore., officiated for the ceremony witnessed by some 200 guests. The bride is a foster daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Burrill, Prospect and the bride groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Ashley, Route 1, Box 35, Mt. Angel, Ore. Given in marriage by her fos ter parents, the bride wore a peau de taffeta gown with basque bodice, long sleeves and portrait neckline overlaid in Alencon lace re-embroidered in pearls and iridescent sequins. The con trolled bell skirt was appliqued with lace medallions and accent ed with a detachable chapel train which was attached to a looped bustle at the waistline. Her veil of English illusion was arranged from an open pillbox crown of Alencon lace with a full-blown lace fleurette trimmed with seed pearls. She carried a bouquet of red and white rose buds. Sislcr Is Matron Mrs. Dennis Bjelland, Kern ville, Ore., was matron of honor (or her sister and Mrs. James Heath, Medford, was bridesmatron. Bridesmaids were the Misses Mary Ann Hubbard; Penny Caldwell, Fairbanks, Alaska, and Sandi Burrill, a sis ter of the bride. Patty Tribett, a cousin of the bride, was flower girl and Lyle Follett, Elgin, another cousin, was Bible boy. Lighting the candles were Gina and Kevin Burrill, sister and brother of the bride. The bride's attendants wore gowns in identical style made of red satin with princess bodices and flared skirts with smooth fronts over panels and con trolled back fullness. Their min iature open pillbox hats were of while fur with float veils, and they carried white fur muffs with holly and red carnations. Their slippers matched their gowns. The flower girl's frock was of white nylon embroidered in red. Her red hat was trimmed wilh while fur and she carried a mulf with whito carnations and holly. The candlelighter's dress matched those worn by Ihe at tendants and she wore, a small pillbox hat with veil and while Gloves. Norman Lee, aaiom, was nesi man and ushers were Michael Burrill, a hrothcr of the bride; Fidel Gairolo and William Hart man, bolh Salem, and Don Green, Roseburg. Greenery In Church White chrysanthemums and holiday greenery decorated the church and while bows marked the pews. Mrs. Cifford Fellows was or ganist. Soloists were Alvy Bow man and Mrs. uavia uaruner. The reception, given uy Mr. and Mrs. Burrill, was held at North's Restaurant. Decorations were in the holiday theme. Mrs. J. Culp, Scolts Mills, a sister ot the bridegroom; Mrs. Ar chie McKillop and Mrs. J. Gal lerghcr cut and served the wed dine cake, Mrs. Everett Shafer, Piosuect and Mrs. Norman Jantzer. Prospect, a sister-in- law of the bride, and Miss Janet Bean, Medford, were in charge of pouring coflee and punch. Mrs. l.orene uoin ami mm Calif., an uncle of the bride and Mrs. Cornforth. The rehearsal dinner was held earlier that afternoon at Kim's Restaurant with about 25 guests attending. The bride attended Prospect HiRh School, Southern Oregon College, and University of Ore gon School of Nursing. She is a registered nurse and is re ceiving olliccrs indoctrination training with the U. S. Navy Nurse Corps in the Naval Hos pital at Portsmouth, Va. The bridegroom attended Silverton High School and Willamette University. He will attend school while the bride is at the Naval hospital. They will live at 5217 Argall Avenue, Norfolk, Va. after December 23. . Parties Given For traveling the bride wore a red knit dress with black ac cessories. The bride-elect was honored at two pre-wedding events, the first December 12 in the home of Mrs. Burrill, Prospect. Dec orations included a white net umbrella with candle - type lights and poinsettias entwined on lbs handle. Table decorations also were red and white. Twenty-two guests attended. Miss Mary Ann Hubbard, Mrs. James Heath and Mrs. Dennis Bjelland were cohostcsscs. A personal shower was held December 14 in the home of Mrs. Heath in Medford. Ten guests attended. Small white Christmas trees of net were used for decorations and a late afternoon supper was served Medford Duplicate Club mem bcrs conducted their annual Christmas dinner party Decem ber 17, preceding a master point play. The club will recess until January 7 when another master point game will be played. During the session it was announced that the Bear Creek Duplicate Club will meet each Thursday evening as usual and the Ashland Duplicate Club will meet on Monday evenings. Twenty-two tables in two sec tions were in play at the recent party. In Section A, north-south po sition, Mrs. Dolph Phipps and Mrs. George Codding won first place with 147 points. Other winners were Ralph Meegan and Chester Reavis, 130; Mrs. Sam Richardson and Robert R. Dickey, 12014 and Mrs. George Dean and Mrs. M. Hogan, 108'i. East-west games were won by Col. D. H. Barber and James Morgan, 137; Mrs. D. J. Clifford and Mrs. G. B. Tor gerson, 121; Dr. and Mrs. M. E. Corthell, Grants Pass, 118 Mi, and Mrs. H. W. Benson and Mrs. Neal Dunlap, 112'i. Section B, north-south win ners were Mrs. Joseph F. Clark and Mrs. Hugh Collins, 145'i; Mrs. Sam Van Dyke and Mrs. Glen Harrison, 133; Sam J. Stinebaugh and R. D. Cope land, Grants Pass. 131 and Mrs. John Dougherty and Mrs. Le- land Clark, 130. East - west position winners were Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Wolke. Grants Pass, and Mrs. Fred Rehling and Al Giliiousen, who tied for first and second with 134 -points; and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Smith and John Short ridge and Waller Ensminger, Grants Pass, who tied for third and fourth places, with 118 points.
