6 B SUNDAY, DECEMBER 22, 1M Sen. Wayne Morse Reports $9,585 as '62 Net Income WASHINGTON (UPI) - Sen. Wayne Morse, D-Ore., reported to the Senate today his 1962! "net" income was $9,585 on a gross of $69,247. His estimated I property assets, mostly in farm holdings, totaled between $388,000 and $438,000. Morse made public his own Income and assets in a Senate speech during action on legisla- tion to require such public dis-j closure by top federal officials i and national political committee officers. The cur rent Rules Committee inquiry Into t h e Baker "outside inter est" case must "not he the end of the matter," he said. Detailing his own financial picture, Morse reported that in addition to his Senate salary of $22,500, he received in 1062 a total of $10,364.01 in lecture fees, $5,000 for his service as "impartial chairman" of the Na tional Electrical Benefit fund of the National Employes Benefit Board, and $27,512.61 in gross farm income. He said he also received $432 In interest and $3,439.28 in "oth er" amounts for official travel, office and communication al lowances. From his $69,247.90 of income he deducted $59,662.28 in ex penses for farm operation, de preciation, Senate cost-of-living allowance, official travel, personally-paid office items and federal income tax withholding payment, for a net of $9,585.62. He pointed out that he also has such "incorporeal" assets as his wife and family, and the trust of Oregonians who have elected him four limes lo Iho Senate. The most valuable property asset listed was his 29-acre farm on the edge of Eugene, Ore. on which he estimated the market value at $200,000 to $250,000. investment In Farm He said his Investment In this farm, owned for 40 years, is be tween $60,000 and $70,000, and that lis substantial increase in value results from lis proximity fo the growing city of Eugene, I which now has "grown around three sides of the farm." t The Morse family's second farm at Poolcsvillc, Md., out side Washington, has an esti mated market value of shout $75,000, he said, In Ibis 74-acre property he said he has a total investment of about $50,000, not including taxes since 1957. Circulation increased from 25,327 to 28,719 books. Highest Increases were In the Phoenix and Jacksonville branches and the Medford Jun lor Department. Local Man Appears On Assault Charge William W. Branscomb, 43, of a local hotel, appeared in Jack son County District Court Thurs day on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon. The case was continued until Monday. Branscomh requested ap pointment of counsel and bail was set at $2,500. Branscomb is charged in con nection with an incident in which William Peter Grotte, 30, of 344 Mae St., Medford, was stabbed on South Riverside Ave nue last week in front of a tav ern. Medford Lawyer Otto Frohn mayer was appointed Thursday to represent johnny Lee Wil liamson. 21, Klamath Falls, who is charged with burglary not in a dwelling. Ball was set it $1,500. His case was continued until Monday. Patrick Ford, Medford law yer, was appointed to represent Fredrick Michael Wooldridge, 23, of Medford, who Is charged with obtaining property by false pretenses.
