The Democratic lawmaker said that both the FBI and po lice in Washington and Connec ticut were alerted about a week ago after he received two tele grams and two letters warning (hat he may be killed. The latest threat against the one time FRI man came when a male voice telephoned the mation and said: "I know of a plot to kill Senator Dodd." (UPI) - The last time Richard Honeck spent Christmas outside prison walls he was 20 years old and William McKinley was president of a nation straining to start a new century. Horatio Alger novels, with their young heroes making quick fortunes by honesty and hard work, were the literary rage. But Honeck never saw the birth of the 20th Century as a free man. He was sentenced to life imprisonment at Menard Prison here on Nov. 17, 1899, for the murder of his former school teacher. Friday the Illinois pardon and parole board gave Honeck, 1)4, the news that surpasses the end ing of any Horatio Alger novel: He might be freed from prison before Christmas, after spend ing 64 years behind bars. For Honeck, one of 11 chil dren of a Hermann, Mo., black smith, the news couldn t have been better. "I'm ready to go," he said when Warden Ross V. Randolph told him of the parole board's decision. Randolph said the one thing on the prisoner's mind when he was summoned to his office. was whether he would be out in time to spend Christmas as a free man. "This could be my first Christmas outside Ihe peniten tiary in 65 years, Honeck told the warden. Honeck will be paroled to his niece, Mrs. Clara orth, San Le andro, Calif., pending approval 2nd Oldest Inmate At Salem Released SALEM (UPI) -Robert Hick- son, 70, the second oldest in mate of the Oregon State Peni tentiary, has been released after serving 41 years behind bars. Hickson was convicted in 1922 of slaying his wife. Hickson, then 37, tried to take his own life after shooting his wife with a revolver. His original life sentence was commuted by former Gov. Charles A. Sprague In 1940 to 55 years. The Oregon Roard of Parole and Probation said Friday Hick son was released Oct. 1 and is now living in an out-of-state nursing home. Hickson was paroled In July, 1940, but four months later was hack behind bars because of drinking. Oldest Inmale at the prison is Oles Brown, 81, who started serving a life sentence in 1920.
