Chiefs Top Crater JV CENTRAL POINT-Hot-shool-ing Rogue River varsity bounced from a first quarter deficit last night to down the Crater JV basketball team 72-56 at Rogue Hiver. Crater led at the quarter 17-13 and Rogue River 30-26 at the half. Bob Pentecost had 16 points and Bill Powell 14 for Rogue River and Fred Marsh 12 and Bill Colley 10 for Crater. ECAC PICKS YEOMAN'S NEW YORK (UPI) - The Eastern College Alhlclic Con ference has selected Earl 11. Yeomans, the Rinup's former president, as recipient of its James Lynch Memorial Award for 1963. The award is maile annually lo "an Eastern alhlclic admin istrative official who has made an unusual conlrihtilion in the Interest of intercollegiate allv lot its and their sound conduct." Yeomans is vice president for public affairs at Temple Uni versity. Medford JWribune SPORTS Eagles Schedule Bruins Friday EAGLE POINT Eagle Point High's cage varsity will play at Broukings on Friday night. On Saturday night the Eagles will entertain Glide. This scheduling clears up a conflict. The EP slate had called fur trips lo Glide Friday and lo Brookings on Saturday. How ever, Glide's schedule showed that It was to be at home to Phoenix on Friday and was lo go to Eagle Point on Saturday, The Phoenix schedule also show ed that it had a Friday date al Glide. The fact that the Brookings Bruins had no game set for Fri day offered a solution lo Ihc problem. William and Mary Grid Mentor Quits WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (UPI) Milton Drewer at 40 may be looking around for a new ca reer and William and Mary col lege is looking for a new foot ball coach. Drewer, who only a year ago was a victim of an alumni pow er play, quit the Indians after failing to win assurances he would get more support so he could field a winning team. Me never had one in seven years as head coach. But now that he and William and Mary parted, Drewer seems unconcerned about more coaching. The situation was set up a year ago when a group of alum ni tried to have him removed completely. His second three year contract was due to expire then. Instead, Drewer hung on but yielded the title of athletic di rector to II.' Lester Hooker while retaining the title of head coach. Gambold Interested In WSU Grid Post STANFORD, Calif. (UPI) -Hob Gumbold, Stanford assist ant football coach, said today he "definitely" was interested in the vacant head coaching job at Washington State. "I've been interested for quite a while in becoming a head coach," said Gambold. "I have had some inquiries about the Washington State job. "But I haven't had anything ollici.il in the way of an offer. Gambold formerly was an as sistant coach at Washington Stale and Oregon State. EP Frosh Win 57-43 EAGLE POINT - A strong second half comeback gave Eacle Point a 57-43 basketball decision over St. Mary's in a freshman game here yesterday. The Eagles outscored SM 39- 7 in the last half after trailing 19-6 at the quarter and 36-18 at halftime. Ken Mesloh helped EP with nine points in the third quarter and Richard Bartling cored 12 in the fourth. Mesloh had 19 points and Bartling 18. Lewis tallied 20 for St. Mary's. Ward Criticizes Chicago Trace PORTLAND (UPI) - Pete Ward, rookie third base star for the Chicago White Sox last sea son, Tuesday night criticized the deal which sent veteran sec ond baseman Nellie Fox from the American League baseball team to Houston. The White Sox acquired pitch er Jim Golden and outfielder Danny Murphy from the Na tional League team. "I definitely think It'll hurt us," Ward said. "He's too valu able. I don't like to see him go. Zeldcl was cut from ear to ear Sunday night in Portland by the stick of Pat Ilannigan of the Buckaroos. Keith Allen, Totem Coach, said it was the worst hockey cut he'd ever seen. Santa Clara Tops Miami By United Press International There were plenty of storm warnings hoisted along the Western cage front before the Miami Hurricanes came to the San Francisco Bay . area, but the flondans hardly caused a stir when they finally arrived Tuesday night. Barry did live up to his press notices as he maintained his record by hitting 34 points, but Bruce Asch of Ihc Broncs had 28 and Russ Vrankovich 23 to spark a well-balanced attack.
