That set the red-hot Cadets on a final des perate drive, but Navy defend ers, led by Captain Tom Lynch, repelled it as time expired and 102,000 throats set up a roar. Navy's winning touchdown drive, launched in the fourth period, after stopping Army on the Middie nine, went 91 yards, aided by two consecutive foul calls against the Cadets for roughness. The second penalty gave Navy a first down on Army's 28. Two plays later, Donnelly swept around his left end, fought his way past the secondary defenders and ran 20 yards for his third score. (UPI) The San Jose State Spartans dominated t h e University of Portland in the first half Fri- night and then survived a furi ous rally by the visitors in the second half to defeat the Pilots 58-56 in an intersectional basket ball contest. The Spartans led by 18 points midway through the second half. But the Pilots, paced By tor- wards Mickey Toner and Cincy Powell, caught fire and moved to within two points of San Jose with 40 seconds remaining in me game. At this point, Spartan guard Ron Labetich was fouled and made good on his two free throws to put San Jose State out of reach. The Pilots got off -to a shaky start and were able to take only 18 shots from the field, in the first half, while the Spartans made 3 attempts. Powell led all scorers with 21 points, 14 of them coming in the second half. Gary Gresham was high for the winners with 15, followed by Harry Edwards with 14 and Al Jansci with 13. from a 21-18 lead to a 39-18 ad vantage at halftime. Oregon State made 39 of 81 field goal attempts for 48 per cent and British Columbia hit 16 of 56 shots from the floor for 29 per cent. The Beavers held a 62-37 margin in rebounding. J., scored the major boxing upset of 1963 Saturday night by winning the world middleweight cham pionship from Dick Tiger of Nigeria by long-range su periority over the stocky Tiger, who tried to bring the fight to close quarters. SALEM (UPI) -Defending champion Lewis and Clark and Linfield clashed for the NAIA Tip-off tournament basketball championship here last night. Jim Boutin scored 35 points to lead Lewis and Clark to an 87-75 win over Pacific at Forest Grove Friday night, while Wayne Petersen scored 28 to spark Linfield to a 94-82 win over Eastern Oregon at Salem in the semifinals. Pacific led 47-46 at halftime. Leon Johnson had 31 points for the losers. Linfield was in front 47-35 at intermission. Eastern Oregon's George Wachter collected 21. In consolation games Friday night, Portland State defeated Oregon Tech 73-52 at Forest Grove and Willamette lopped Oregon College 77-72 at Salem. The victory kept alive t h e Packers' hopes of winning the title in the National Foot ball League's Western Conference where they trail the first - place Chicago Bears by a few percent age points. The Rams delighted the crowd of 52,357 by grabbing a halftime lead of 14-10. But in the third quarter Packer fullback Jim Taylor, who had been held to 23 yards in the first half, broke through the Ram line on a draw play and bobbed and weaved 40 yards to a touchdown. Jerry Kramer's conversion put the Packers out in front 17-14 and the Rams seemed to fall apart after that. Taylor retired late in the game with a total of 113 yards gained on 17 carries.
