4 &4 12 D THURSDAY, MXK.MBEIl S, MM MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE, MCDFORD, OREGON First American-Communist Joint Show Being Filmed In Hungary BUDAPEST (UPI) - East West tensions have slackened in a very real way along the Hun garian Danube with the shoot ing of the first joint American Hungarian film to be completed any day now. This is the first time that an American company, Cinerama, has teamed with a Communist film company, in this case the Hungarotilm Company. Technicians for this unique bit of international cooperation are basically half and half. I he American producer is Thorn- rnnpnii urn ilr Istvan Sieve Ncmcskuerty is the Hungarian production hall. American iih.ii aid Thorpe is the director. The chief camermaman is Hungary's best, Istvan Wide brand. Working together with him, separated only by an in terpreter, is Cinerama's top sound expert, Fred Bosch. The stars of the picture are American comic Buddy Hack ett and suave George Sanders, Klamaih Falls Men Indicted for Murder KLAMATH FALLS (UPI) -Olive Dixon, 52, and Eugene Beierle, 47, were indicted on charges of first degree murder by the Klamath County Grand Jury Tuesday. Thev were charged in con nection with the fatal shootings of their wives last month. Dixon is accused of killing his wife, Ellen, 42, on Nov. 2(1 and Bcicrlc is accused of killing his wife, Gloria, 2:!, on Nov. 22. making the 75th film of his long career. The plot of the story, "The Golden Head", concerns the stealing of one of the Hungar ian national treasures, the head of St. Laszlo,. from it's resting place in the Cathedral of Gyoer, some 90 miles northwest of Bu dapest. Equipment has been pooled for the film. Cinerama supplied the cameras and sound system while the Hunnia Studios sup plied the studio facilities and technicians. Even Czechoslovakia did its part to aid the East-West co operation. Due to the extra elec tricity loads needed for the spe cial Cinerama equipment, a 200 kilowatt generator truck was borrowed from a studio in Bra tislava, Czechoslovakia. Both Hungarian and Cinera ma officials were agreed that this co-production, the first American - Communist film, should be merely a foregoer of many others, a furthering of East-West relations. As Cinerama President Nich olas Reisini expressed it, "Hun gary is not just beautiful wom en, salami and the Gabors. (UPI) AMA Votes for Study On Smoking Effects PORTLAND (UPI) - The American Medical Association's House of Delegates today voted to undertake an all-out study into effects of smoking upon health. The action was recommended earlier by the AMA's board of trustees. The AMA said it hoped to find out exactly what human ail ments are "caused or aggra vated by smoking" and to find out which part of the cigarette may be the villian. The go-ahead came as Dr. E.' Cuyler Hammond, director of the American Cancer Society's statistical research, reported a three-year study showed the death rate among cigarette smokers was more than double that of non-smokers. Bronze Star Received 20 Years After Signed DELHI, Calif. (UPI) - Er nest Makita of Delhi recently re ceived the Bronze Star from the Department of Defense nearly 20 years after the late Presi dent Roosevelt signed the cita tion. The citation was for "meri torious achievement in ground operation against the enemy in the Mediterranean operation during the Salerno campaign." Makita returned home from World War II in 1946.
