A grant of tBJl.flflO has been awarded OSO by NSF to con duct another Academic Year Institute for teachers during the 196445 school year. IJie insulates are part of the National Science Founda t i o it program aimed at upgrading science and mathematics teach ing in the United States and in creasing fte jjuraber of top quality teachers and scientists. OSU was one t 16 leading U.S. universities picked to start the training programs in 1S57. It has been on the select list each year since. Next ear. 5? universities mii offer Bislitatts with 1.7S0 teachers enroUeJ. About 142S will be high school teachers and 125 college teacb-era. Take Advanced Training Forty teachers wit! take the advanced training at Oregon State. They wiU be drawn from the biolegkal sciences, mathe matics, physres, general science and chemistry. Each of the teachers chosen tar the training B1 receive $3,890 grants pte aiiowancea for dependents, books and tw el. Twenty-seven also wiU re ceive grants for summer ichool in ises. Some 780 applications were received hy OSU for the 46 spots in this year's institote. The 4S teachers are trom 21 states. The teachers take special graduate level courses in science and mathematics and most will be able to complete requirements for an advanced degree. (UPU-A federal grand jury Wednesday continued an unexpected second investigation of the case which ted to indictment ot Teamster President James S. Hottm on jury tampering charges. In a surprise move Tuesday, the panel reopened Us probe of -the 1982 trial Is which Hoffa was charged with consnirir.i to receive a SI million jrJcfctsadr. from a trmkmg firm. The case ended m a mistrts) when the jury failed to reach verdtot. But the trial fades ordered a grand jury mvestiga (ion. which resulted in the in dictment of Hoffa and six others on jury tampering charges. The grand Jury reconvened here Monday io consider evi dence of alleged attempts to hx the second Hoffa trial. Two federal lodges disbarred a Hoffa attorney on grounds ha attempted to bribe a prospec tive juror. However, tte probe lot an unexpected turn back to Jhs 1362 conspiracy iru! when three members of the jury which heard that case were summoned ts testify. The hus band of a fourth juror in the case also was subpoenaed. Although grand jury testi mony is not made public, it wst believed the panel was exam ining new evidence in the cass which led to Holla's jury tam pering indictment.
