After several days in Siskiyou General Hos pital, Yreka, Calif., he has been convalescing at his home. A visitor last week at the Tom Watt home was his brother, Charles Watt, Bend. Concert Scheduled Sunday Afternoon Two American organists, Shay Torrent and Axel Alexander, will present a concert at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, at the Holly Theater, under the aus pices of Purucker Music House. Torrent is a composer, con ductor, television artist and re cording star for Mercury Rec ords. Alexander is a graduate of the University of Breslau in Germany and has been organist, arranger, and composer for Ra dio Frankfurt, Germany, re cording artist for major Ger man record companies and guest star on Lawrence Welk television show. Police said attendant Robert Payne 19, reported a man came into the station and handed him a note saying "This is a stick up. Don't get excited." The man, about 30 or 35 years of ace. said he hart a 01m in his pocket. Payne said he hand ed over $20 in currency and men was orderedinto a rest room. Payne said he managed to get hold of a gun as he was ordered out and when he heard the holdup man approaching the restroom a few minutes later he fired into the restrnnm rinnr hut the bullet did not penetrate. He said he heard the man fleeing and rushed out of the restroom, firing shots after him. The suspect fired one shot at Payne which struck a window. The holdup man was being sought. It was not believed he was hit. Maurine Neuberger May Be Candidate PORTLAND (UPI) -Oregon's junior senator, Mrs. Maurine Neuberger, said here Wednesday she "presumes" she will be a candidate for reelection in 1966. The pronouncement was the first inkling the woman senator would seek to retain the scat she was elected to following the death of her husband, the late Sen. Richard Neuberger. A likely candidate for the same seat is Gov. Mark Hat field, barred by the constitution from running for a third term for the state's highest office. His term is up in 1966. Hatfield, a Republican, has also been prominently men tioned as a running mate for the GOP presidential nominee in 1964. Two Parked Cars Reported Damaged Medford police are investigate ing incidents in which two parked cars were damaged hy unknown vehicles, according to reporls. J. D. Connor, 444 S. Fir St., told police his vehicle wasj struck and damaged sometime prior to 3:18 p.m. Wednesday while it was. parked in front of his residence. Police were'notif ied by Edwin Kmile Jurvakinen, Parkdale, Ore., that his car was damaged prior to 8:18 o'clock this morn ing while it was parked at 322 S. Riverside Ave. GOLD HILL I.O.O.F. Salvation Army Kettles on Streets The familiar Salvation Army kettles appeared today on street corners in Medford to re ceive contributions through Chnstmas Eve. Proceeds will benefit the needy in Medford and Jackson County during the Christmas season. Sam Collon is chairman of the committee this year, according to Capt. Kenneth Angel, com manding officer of the Medford Corps. Other committee mem bers are O. D. Martin, Joe Jor gensen, Murray Gardiner, James Sullivan, Murray Dumas and Jack Craegcr. .. Other groups and service clubs in the community will be invited to assist in the entire Christmas program including the Kettle Appeal, gut giving and Christmas parties. Thief Hides in Store; Gets $100 A thief, who apparently hid in the store after it closed Wed nesday afternoon, took an esti mated $100 from two cash reg isters in Mann's Department Store, according to Medford po' lice. The theft was reported short ly after midnight by a janitor who discovered the rear door to the store was unlocked. Subsequent investigation re vealcd the loss. There were no signs of forcible entry, leading officers to speculate the thief hid in the store until it closed, and then rifled the cash regi tcrs on the basement floor. The Rev. P. Malcolm Ham mond of the Methodist Church will officiate. Committal will be held in the Mt. View Cometery, Ashland. Mrs. Lear was born in Minne sota Nov. 9, 1877. On Dec. 6, 1904, she was married to Ben jamin L. Lear at Deer Lodge, Mont. Mr. Lear preceded her in death Nov. 18, 1962. She had been a resident of 376 B St., Ashland, since 1947. She is survived by two sons, Benjamin L. Lear Jr., Medford, James N. Lear, Klamath Falls, and three grandchildren. DERONDO JOHNSON Derondo V. (UPD World War I veteran Gene Rob erts, 68, will get a Purple Heart Sunday for shrapnel wounds he suffered in the Argonne Forest in France on Oct. 9, 1918. Tucumcari veterans, who found out about the wounds, asked the federal government to issue him the Purple Heart.
