John Connally is recover ing will stay there for some time, a state spokesman said Thusday. The governor still has a "long way to go and the fact he was on television in no way means he has recovered," the spokes man said. "Doctors reluctantly permit ted Gov. Connally's press ap pearance because they felt it was urgent that Connally make public statement to the na tion and the world as soon as he was physically able," the spokesman said. Connally gave a graphic, de tailed and dramatic account of the shooting of President Ken nedy and the wounding of him self. He was sitting in front of the President in the motorcade last Friday. Connally underwent surgery on his right forearm shortly af ter the news conference and is "progressing toward healing in a satisfactory fashion." "Gov. Connally's overall con dition is encouraging, but con valescence naturally will re quire some time, due to the very critical degree of his wounds." Connally was shot through the chest by the same gunman who killed the President. The bullet fractured his right forearm and deeply wounded his thigh. Consumers Prices Up in Portland SAN FRANCISCO (UPI) -Consumer prices in Portland rose 0.3 per cent between July and October, according to the U.S. Department of Labor's Bu reau of Labor Statistics. Regional Director Max Kossor is said the July-October quar ter was the 10th , consecutive quarter in which an increase was registered. It brought the Portland Index to an all time high of 107.1. This is 1.7 per cent above the year ago level. Although the increase was general, some declines were noted. The department said the most important change over the quar ter was a rise of 3.2 per cent in the reading and recreation group.
