Connally Not
Allowed Visitors
DALLAS (UPI)-The "no vis
itors" sign on the door where
Gov. John Connally is recover
ing will stay there for some
time, a state spokesman said
Thusday.
The governor still has a "long
way to go and the fact he was
on television in no way means
he has recovered," the spokes
man said.
"Doctors reluctantly permit
ted Gov. Connally's press ap
pearance because they felt it
was urgent that Connally make
public statement to the na
tion and the world as soon as
he was physically able," the
spokesman said.
Connally gave a graphic, de
tailed and dramatic account of
the shooting of President Ken
nedy and the wounding of him
self. He was sitting in front of
the President in the motorcade
last Friday.
Connally underwent surgery
on his right forearm shortly af
ter the news conference and is
"progressing toward healing in
a satisfactory fashion."
"Gov. Connally's overall con
dition is encouraging, but con
valescence naturally will re
quire some time, due to the
very critical degree of his
wounds."
Connally was shot through
the chest by the same gunman
who killed the President.
The bullet fractured his
right forearm and deeply
wounded his thigh.
