SUNDAY. Many Attend Ladies of Elks Autumn Party The Medford Ladies at Elks held one of their larger parties of the season when they honored Uie Ashland l-ertiss j vescof', noverarjer a, ai a luncneon neia in the Elks club lounge. More than one hundred womtin at tended. . The tables were decorated with coleus, fuchsias and other plants which with pencils were table prizes for the afternoon of bridge, canasta and pinochle. Autumn flowers and . leaves completed the decorations. Mrs Merton S. Lyster was in charge of the flower arrangements. Mrs. Charles Petri, president of the Ashland group, introduced her officers, Mrs. floyd Cross lin, treasurer: Mrs. E. C. Gard- ner, secretary; and Mrs. Nina Bounds, hospitality. Mrs. C. William Booth, chairman of the Medford Ladies, presented her officers also. They are Mrs. Frank W. Payne, vice chairman; Mrs. Edith Grigsby, treasurer; Mrs. Fred Sweeney, hospitality; and Mrs. Herbert Alford, member ship. Mrs. Richard R. Morrow of Ashland won a special prize. OSU Mothers Hear Reports Mrs. H. Chandler Drew, a member of the Oregon Stale University Mothers Club schol arship committee, and Mrs. Lloyd Parsons, of the state membership committee gave re ports on a state meeting held recenly at the university dur ing a meeting of the local club board last week. The meeting, which was held in Mrs. Par son's home at 2320 East Main Street, was attended by 10 lo cal board members. Mrs. John Schroeder presided. A meeting was planned for January. A rummage sale also is planned for February to raise funds toward a $330 scholar ship. Anniversary During Grange Meeting CENTRAL POINT-Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Smith were hon ored on the occasion of their twenty-fifth wedding anniver sary by Central Point Grange members during a recent Grange meeting. The couple was presented a wedding cake and Mrs. Smith was given a corsage. They also received a money tree from Grange members. Arrangements for the observ- ance were made by Mrs. Gas ton Floux and Mrs. L. C. Oop den. The Smiths are longtime members of the grange. He has served as master and held other offices. Mrs. Smith has been pianist for many years. has been Home Economics Club chairman and held office. Mrs. 0. T. Wilson read a poem written in honor of the Smiths. Touch of Paris Style Revue Plans Are Set Mrs. William Hatzl, general chairman for the Touch of Paris style show being presented by Keames social Club, has an nounced that plans are progress ing for the event. The show will be presented Saturday, November IB at 1 p.m. at the Masonic Temple. An afternoon of dessert, cards and styles by Mann's store are scheduled. Mrs. L. D. Edwards will be at the organ for background music during dessert and the style show. Models for the event will be Mrs. Donald Ashpole, Mrs. E. G. Randolph, Mrs. Stewart Pen- ington, Mrs. Karleen Wade. Mrs. Deloert Harvey, Mrs. Glenn Jerden, Mrs. R, S. May field, Miss Marcia Mayfield, Miss Adah Harris and Mis. John Smith. Phoenix-Talent Events Listed PHOENIX-Open house will be held by the Phoenix High School Wednesday, November 13 in observance of National Education Week. Parents are in vited to visit in the classrooms with the faculty members from 7:30 to 0 p.m. Refreshments will be served in Room 9 by the Home Eco nomics Department. At 9 p.m. the parents are to go to the gymnasium where the high school band and chorus will present a short musical pro gram under the direction of Gary Monical. National Education Week will be observed in Phoenix and Talent Elementary S c h o o Is Tuesday, November 12 when open house will be held in each school, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Emphasis will be placed on the curriculum and school schedule. The work to be ac complished in each grade will be discussed. Parents of students and inter ested school patrons are in vited. Refreshments will be served. Open House Set At Washington Washington school will hold open house Thursday, Novem ber 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. in observance of National Educa tion Week. All parents and any one Interested are invited to attend. During the evening the Wash-1 ington Parent-Teacher Associa tion will hold a baked food sale. Coffee and refreshments will be served in the cafeteria. MEDFORD Visitor Here From Germany Among Rogue Valley visitors this fall is Mrs. Ida Hess ot Haan, Germany, who is a house' guest at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Br is, 128 Valley View Drive. The traveler arrived in San Francisco October 8 where she was met by the Medford couple and their daughter, Krista, 10 months, the only grandchild of the visitor. While Mrs. Hess has studied Oxford English, she hopes to find someone in the valley who has a speaking knowledge of German, wno would be inter ested in assisting her with con versational English. Mrs. Hess arrived in New York City September 12 aboard the North German Lloyd Line's ship, Bremen. From there she traveled to Chicago where she visited her daughter, Gertrud, who Is a medical technician there. This is the first trip to the United States for Mrs. Hess, although she has traveled con siderably in Europe and North ern Africa. Here For Holidays Mrs. Hess plans to remain here until after Christmas when she will travel to Denver, Colo., to visit the parents of her daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Justus Wilhclm. From there she will visit her daughter briefly in Chicago before returning to her home in Germany. The visitor's husband, who died earlier this year, was a re tired Lutheran minister, hav ing served the Lutheran con gregation in Haan for 32 years. The city, in the Rhine Valley, has a population of 15,000. It is near Dusseldorf and Cologne. The visitor's other children are Dieter, a medical intern in Germany; Wilhelm, who is in business, and Hanna, who is a Lutheran deaconess. Her son here is a forester with the Bureau of Land Management. The German visitor enjoys music, literature and fine arts and has so far attended the Portland Symphony concert.
