Beavers Outlast Stanford Bv 10-7 MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE. MEDFORD. 0REC10N SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 3. 1363 CORVALLIS (UPI) - Senior specialist Steve Clark's first pe riod field goal stood up for a 10-7 Oregon State football vic tory over fumbling Stanford Saturday. Clark's 21-yard kick opened the scoring and proved decisive as Stanford was unable to hold onto the ball in the second half. A 66-yard punt return by sophomore halfback Craig Ritchcy accounted for the In dians' touchdown. It came on the last play of the opening pe riod and put his team ahead 7-3. But the Beavers came back to forge ahead to stay on Quar terback Gordon Queen's 2-yard second period touchdown pass to End Len Frketich. Coach Barney Riggs' Hornets dominated the contest from Hie kickoff to the final gun. They scored four limes in the first half and once in the second. First touchdown was scored by Mark Wiegand on a 19-yard run. Phil Hackworth carried for the extra point. Moments later Ihe Hedricks again had posses sion of the ball. Bill Atwood roll ed out and passed a 40-yard bomb to Phil Jahn for a mark er. Doug Johannson gained the bonus. Punt Blocked Johannson went over with the third TD on a 30-yard romp. He added the conversion. A blocked punt set up the Hedrick fourth TD. The Hornets took the ball on the Mac 19-yard line and needed five plays to score. Jo hannson shot off for the last three yards and Hackworth con verted. A 29-yard sprint by Hack worth was good again for a counter and he also added the final extra. The Bulldogs lone TD came late in the second period. This was set up by an excilinn 58- yard run by Mark Dipple. Phil Taylor crashed the final three yards for the score. Taylor also made the PAT good. Taylor along with Dippel, and Clyde Lees were the offensive threats for Mac. Taylor also led the Bulldog defense with 10 tackles, with Shawn Lees coming up with seven. R'uss Ferguson undisputedly won the honors of the best line man of the game as he came up with 20 tackles for the Hor nets. Also showing fine defen sive play were Dave Culbertson, Steve Johnson and Phil Hack worth. Although the weather was cold and damp, there was a large crowd on hand to witness the battle. For Hedrick Hackworth had 95 yards in nine carries, Wie gand 50 yards in six and Jo hansson 81 yards in eight. statistics! Ilnl. Battle of Wounded At Minneapolis Today MINNEAPOLIS (UPI) - The Los Angeles Rams and the Min nesota Vikings, tied for fifth place in the National Football League's Western Conference, meet today in what would ap pear lo be a "battle of the walk ing wounded," according to ri val conches. Both teams have been using liniment and bandages on wholesale scale but many of the casualties will suit up and play. Minnesota appears lo be hard est hit with injuries. Offensive end Ray Poage is in the hospi tal and halfback Tommy Mason is out with a bad leg. End Leon Clarke, a former Ram, has been sidelined for the season. The Rams have a variety of minor ills. Individually, Lu Bain, who alternated at quarterback and fullback for Oregon, gained 82 yards in 14 carries. Halfback H. D. Murphy picked up 65 yards in 14 runs and Keller made 63 in 18 carries.
