10-7 Oregon State football vic
tory over fumbling Stanford
Saturday.
Clark's 21-yard kick opened
the scoring and proved decisive
as Stanford was unable to hold
onto the ball in the second
half.
A 66-yard punt return by
sophomore halfback Craig
Ritchcy accounted for the In
dians' touchdown. It came on
the last play of the opening pe
riod and put his team ahead
7-3.
But the Beavers came back
to forge ahead to stay on Quar
terback Gordon Queen's 2-yard
second period touchdown pass
to End Len Frketich.
The nass climaxed a 64-yard
Oregon State drive that was
helped along when Stanford was
penalized 15 yards for tripping

Hedrick Junior High School's
Hornets completed an undefeat
ed championship ninth grade
football season here on Friday
by downing McLoughlin's Bull
dofis 35-7 in the annual Mcdford
"civil war."
Coach Barney Riggs' Hornets
dominated the contest from Hie
kickoff to the final gun. They
scored four limes in the first
half and once in the second.
First touchdown was scored
by Mark Wiegand on a 19-yard
run. Phil Hackworth carried for
the extra point. Moments later
Ihe Hedricks again had posses
sion of the ball. Bill Atwood roll
ed out and passed a 40-yard
bomb to Phil Jahn for a mark
er. Doug Johannson gained the
bonus.
Punt Blocked
Johannson went over with the
third TD on a 30-yard romp.
He added the conversion. A
blocked punt set up the Hedrick
fourth TD. The Hornets took the
ball on the Mac 19-yard line and
needed five plays to score. Jo
hannson shot off for the last
three yards and Hackworth con
verted. A 29-yard sprint by Hack
worth was good again for a
counter and he also added the
final extra.
The Bulldogs lone TD came
late in the second period. This
was set up by an excilinn 58-
yard run by Mark Dipple. Phil
Taylor crashed the final three
yards for the score. Taylor also
made the PAT good. Taylor
along with Dippel, and Clyde
Lees were the offensive threats
for Mac. Taylor also led the
Bulldog defense with 10 tackles,
with Shawn Lees coming up
with seven.
R'uss Ferguson undisputedly
won the honors of the best line
man of the game as he came
up with 20 tackles for the Hor
nets. Also showing fine defen
sive play were Dave Culbertson,
Steve Johnson and Phil Hack
worth. Although the weather was cold
and damp, there was a large
crowd on hand to witness the
battle.
For Hedrick Hackworth had
95 yards in nine carries, Wie
gand 50 yards in six and Jo
hansson 81 yards in eight.

Stars, a combination of Negro
basketball players "who tour
the world making fans laugh,"
will appear at the Prospect
High School gym on Saturday
Nov. 9, at 8 p.m.
They will oppose a team of
faculty members and alumni.
The lettcrman's club is spon
sor of the game.
Boid Buic is the owner of the
Stars and "magicians" is what
he calls his players. He also
maintains the policies of "the
world is our audience" and
"send them home laughing
