(UPI) Ever fancied yourself sun bathing on a beach in Tahiti, watching the surf break on a coral reef? Wished you could really feel the breeze ; on a ski slope in Switzerland? Or rest in the deck chair of an ocean liner? Step into the living room of your home of tomorrow. No need to go futher. With as much effort as you need today to flip the switch of your electric tooth brush, you'll be ableto no kidding create thestuff that dreams are made ofv "Total Environment," is what it's called a new technically I feasible concept of "dialing" I environmental moods right in your own living room. Want to smell the sweet smells of a botanical garden? Dial it. Want a real good tan for the Caribbean? Dial it. Feel the thrill of a roller coaster? Dial it. It's as simple as that or so say the people who make comfort a business. Experts at the advanced technology labor-1 atones of the General Electric Company here say that today's comfort devices stereos, air conditioners, movies, lighting and heating effects are mov ing into an area of such highly refined perfection that there may be a market someday soon, for a real "you-are-there" room. "If they (the manufacturers) could see the market of one third of the new homes being built right now, they'd dive right into it," said John L. Mat rone, a GE mechanical engineer and project manager. Components for the fun room have long been on GE drawing boards. The space would be 20 feet by 10 feet, with approxi mately 10 feet of overhead to contain a special piston arrange ment and an "atmospheric pre paration tank" for creating the real atmosphere of the desired scene. You could easily make it snow, said Matrone, but the problem would be "shoveling all that stuff out afterward." You'd pick "Hawai i" or "Tasmania" from a catalogued file, for example, and could have still or motion pictures in a pre-selccted scene, with ac companying music. The deck of an ocean liner? A tilting floor, of course. . There would be special effects on records, a file of odors, speakers, projection equipment, amplifiers and special lighting effects. "All we are trying to do Is coordinate a little better what we already are doing in the en tertainment field, and package it, too," Matrone said. The fun room could be creat ed right now, he emphasized. But since there's no way of de termining the market demand yet, it would be too costly to build. Eventually, the environ ment room might be built for under $10,000 or possibly $5,000. He wouldn't predict a year. ?! cSr Jacuzzi Pumps Sales & Service Siskiyou Hardware 225 W. This cartoon depicts such a situation. The caption reads: "I dialed the storm sequence, but I didn't expect it to be so realistic!" THALER United Press International LONDON (UPI) - Cuban fused to line up formally with the Soviet Union against Com munist China, but apparently runs no risk of losing Soviet aid, diplomatic sources said to day. Soviet Premier Nikita S. Khrushchev, however, was re ported to have decided against leaving Castro in charge of Communist plans for penetrat ing Latin America, the sources said. Taking Up Sides According to diplomatic dis patches reaching here," Castro, who pledged full support last -ciimtnnr In thp Snvipt altnrlcK on Peking, refused to make a formal declaration of support more recently when Moscow be gan lining up the world's Com' munist parties to be counted. A summit conference of the parties supporting the Moscow line is reported under prepara tion in Moscow. These talks during next month's celebra tions of the Russian revolution anniversary could begin the process that leads to China's expulsion from the Moscow-led bloc. Communist, theoretical organ of the Soviet Communist party, reported a few days ago that 65 parties have declared them selves in favor of Khrushchev's peaceful co-existence and op posed to China s militant foreign policy. This count left more than a score of Communist parties un accounted for. Some, like Alba nia, North Korea, and appar DENNIS THE MENACE .rn vi m 9 JLhJLM ently North Viet Nam, support the Peking line. Others prefer to stay neutral, and a third group has declined to commit itself for the present. Remains Uncommitted Cuba is in this last group, ac cording to the reports in Lon don. There was no hint of Soviet retaliatory action in the form of an aid cutoff, the sources said. The Soviets value Cuba too highly as a staging area for the Communist penetration of Latin America to let it go. Castro was believed confront ed with a dilemma between his revolutionary aims which are thies for Peking is his refusal pendence on the $1.6 million daily Soviet aid. One other sign of his sympa thies for Pekink is his refusal to sign the nuclear test ban treaty concluded by the Soviets with the West. 'YOU WHAT 146 SAID IBQAV?
