Straighter Slips Are Noted in Fashions A-shapcs, shifts and lifted waistlines in little girls' fashions have their counterparts in soft er, slraighler slips for perfect underlining. Detailing is pretty and demure lace edging, scalloped hems and, on the bodices of raised waistline slips, lace insets, lucks, satin ribbons. , DETAILS DOMINATE Mediterranean influence on fall furniture is expressed in a wealth of architectural detail. Lattice or fretwork effects, graceful columns and arches, framed panels and moldings emphasize the classic, architec tural feeling at home. School and Play Shoes Steal the Season Spotlight Little girls' school and play shoes steal the spotlight away from party shoes this season, Casual but elegant "every day" footwear features leather boots, almost boots, kilties and spectators, in clean, simple de signs. Bell-ringers for the grade school boy are such sturdy styles as four- and five-eyelet brogues in smooth and fine grained leathers, brushed leath er chukkas, waxed leather moc casins and one-loop ghillie ties. Representative of the look for little girls is the almost boot. It usually appears as a slipon or tie, with a high-rising silhouette just below the ankle, in brushed, grained or polished smooth leather.- Fashion touches include contrasting stitching, pixie peaks, side gores and collars. Ankle and calf-length boots, for. both in and out of doors, are generally sleeker and closer to the leg this fall, and textures range from gleaming patent to suede. Moccasins and T-strap san dals for girls have been dressed up with waxy and grained leath ers in countryside colors. , The moc retains it classic look with hand-sewn stitching; the T-strap shows new perforation treat ments, a lower silhouette and wider range of colors. . For the social season skim mers with or without straps appear In black or gaily colored smooth and patent leather, lustre leather and suede. Detail ing is kept to a minimum cen tering mostly on high-riding or squared throat shapes, re strained use of overlay or under lay motifs on vamp and sides and occasional combinations of texture or colors. For dress wear, boys' sllpons In smooth or grained leather are highlighted by side gores or monk-strap detailing. i i f r s Ml at long SKIRT Elegant home is magenta print long skirt, and velvet weskit with matching collar and bow. Classic Glove Is Given '63 Look On hand for off-hand, sportive fashions are classic, casual gloves. Cuffs, gauntlets, flares show up in longer-than short gloves, while the pigskin shortie takes a top position. Seaming, saddle stitching, cuff links, side button trims and real buttons-ups, diagonal treatments and snakeskin touches give the classic glove a fall '63 look. Both knit and leather contrib ute to the casual air, often in combination the wool knit glove with leather palms. Cotton and miracle fabrics win new fashion favor, in smartly tailored ver sions. Important feature of many fall gloves is the lining silk or silk look in the dressier styles, warm lamb-look and other furry fa vorites for comfort in cold weather. Some gloves are de signed to provide a peek-a-boo view of their linings. WANDERING WAISTLINE Fall's belts rarely circle the natural waistline. Lifted effects and low-slung looks are more popular fashions. l Q SPORTIVE FASHION Simple sweatshirt becomes sportive fashion for teens, when it's braid trimmed and appliqued with a sly fox in felt and wool. AT THE NECKLINE Neckline note for the sportive look is provided by ties, in ascot and other versions. Zebra, Leopard Are Seen in Footwear Imitations of the animal world are afoot for at-home lounging this fall. Fur fakery finds zebra and leopard spotlighted. Not fake, but real, is shear ling, appearing in solids or crazy-quilt combinations of vivid colors for at-home boots. New In the at-home picture is the high fabric boot. Slippers on the sophisticated side of fashion are interpreted in furs, velvets, gold, and often studded with "jewels," to wear with elegant at-home costumes. ALL SALES FINAL! Daughter Inherits Approving Fashion From Her Mother Daughter inherits an approv ing fashion nod from Mother this season, while she also in herits many of the "grown-up" styles. But she's not a replica of Mom, quite to the contrary, grade-school fashions h a v e a vivid originality all their own. The casual look and simple shape prevail, featuring shifts and skimmies with new-look long sleeves and lifted waistline effects. Flat front pleats spread ing from neckline to hem and suspender looks are everywhere, with the spotlight catching the A-line. Traditionalists, not to be left out, will find numerous little girl classics with pleated or demure bouffant skirts in styles that stress (he little round collar and are Interpreted for fall with lifted or, in some cases, lowered waistlines. Take Sporty Spotlight In sporty-sportswear jumpers lead all the way, usually un wanted. The jumper look echoed in dresses is all part of a larger "layered look" that extends from dresses to separates. Vests, jackets, blouses, sweat ers appear in layers, with jump ers and skirts, or the look is simulated in dresses. Other combinations for the grade schooler include dresses wi"1 removable tunics and s dresses where the top la. .. is a removable smock. Fashion also puts the little gal in country, tomboy and "Oliver" looks, the latter fea turing long-sleeved cuffed shirts and little vests. Knits and corduroy especial ly the wide wale versions are among the favored fabrics. Plaids and prints appear in early fall cottons and a variety of blends. Velveteens and cotton suedes come out for a party time. ' Cranberry Color The shade in color is cran berry a rich blue-red but there's plenty of choice here, loo. Olive-gold, muted greens, teal to midnight blues, mid brown and plenty of gray bor rowed from the men's wear fabrics get attention. Newest coats for little girls go elegant, with raised waistlines, cape tops, and sometimes smock backs. Big pockets are impor tant, as are scarf necklines. Casual boy-tailored types con tinue strong as basic coats. Coating woolens vary from crisp to boldly textured. Still a favorite is the fur look pile, either as a coat or coat lining. All-weather coats bor row colorful hues and colorful styling from the skiwear department. VEERING TO VESTS Medley of many parts, fash ionable for fall, finds the vest and its near relative, the jer kin, in top position. Among the favored versions are vests in suede, velvet and menswear textured wools. Reds To Show Up In Fashions for Men This Year For wear during their leisure hours, men will "see red" for fall and winter. Shirts, outer wear, iki wear, sweaters, ac cessories and even red blazers, will be featured. The reds will show up in many interpretations and will include Tartan, Brigade, Firebrand, Ember and Oxblood. Tartan is a bright firemen's red; Brigade, a rich cherry shade; Firebrand, a deep cranberry hue; Ember falls into the solid beet shades; and Oxblood the deepest of the reds has a deep blackish-wine tone. In outerwear, "ski" will still pack a wallop . . . expect the classic hooded parka to appear in a new longer, belted style with less heavy quilting and trimmer, racier lines. Quilted will reverse to printed nylon. Leather will be in for a major revival, and this will mean suedes as well as the classic finishes. Favored Position, The cardigan will retain its favored position in the sweater picture with both the ski inspired zip front models and the three-button and six-button styles in new ranges of brushed mohair and wool blends in heather and camel tones or in muted argyle and striped pat terns. In tailored sportswear sport jackets move away from the slick smooth fabrics in the style leading presentations and as sume a rugged, tweedy look. There will be emphasis on bold, rugged patterns, as well as on an entirely different new group of handsomely blended medium shades. Contrasty Effects 1 Herringbones in bold, con trasty effects move up into a new style position, and camel shades are due for even greater acceptance as the nation con tinues to "move out of the dark." Slacks are due to enter the fall season with a more mod erate point of view, somewhat fuller but still definitely "trim and tapered." Plain-front and single-pleat models will have their special adherents. SKI LOOK IN P.J.'S Fall and winter sleepwear will highlight ski-inspired knit ideas via Scandinavian patterns, hirtlnnArksj This fall will also find a new team for sensible I comfort which combines a classic pajama with a shave or dun mat that will annear with long sleeves.
