The deputy dropped to the ground to escape injury. Benton fired six shots into the car and at Sullivan, who was fleeing on foot. One of the bullets struck Sullivan in the right shoulder. The driver of the car, Murland F. Higley, 24, Rexburg, Idaho, was not hit. He was lodged in me county jail. AF Plane Crashes Near Vancouver VANCOUVER, Wash. An Air Force spokesman said the pilot had reported some mechanical difficulty in the Diane and was attemntincr in bring it in for a landing. It was attached to the 460th Fight er Squadron at the base. The crash occurred at 10:22 Legislators Offer To Cut Own Salaries PORTLAND (UPI) - Three Oregon legislators said Friday the first act of any special ses sion of the legislature should be to reduce legislators' salaries if voters turn down the $60 million revenue increase Oct. IS. State Sens. Anthony Yturri (R-Ontario) and Harry Boivin (D-Klamath Falls) issued a joint statement here. State Rep. Rob ert Dickinson (R-Lake Oswego) concurred in a newspaper col umn he writes. Boivin and Yturri said reduc tion should be at least $100 a month, "thereby setting a pat tern for other reductions in the cost of the state's government." Legislators now receive $250 a month plus $20 a day for ex penses during the first 120 days of the session.
