Resident Composers Dick West Contributing to Symphonic Music By DICK WEST WASHINGTON (UPI)-I was cheered by the announcement that one of the new works i to be per- ! formed by the I National Sym phony Orchcs I tra tin's fall was commission e d hv a fnrniirirp certo by Rob ert Evett, who Wist was com mis sioned by Basic-Witz Furniture Industries of Waynesboro, Va., to write a symphonic composi tion commemorating the firm's 75th anniversary. As Howard Mitchell, conduct or of the orcheshtra, pointed out, the contribution of busi ness firms to the library of symphonic music has up to this point been rather meager. There have been composi tions commemorating such things as Napoleon's retreat from Moscow and rainbows over the Grand Canyon. Bui as far as could be said, Basic-Witz is the first furniture company to have itself glor ified by a concerto. "This marks a new depart ure for a business firm, which we hope will start a trend," Miteneii commented. I certainly subscribe to that sentiment, although I was a bit disappointed by Evett's 1 choice of a title. He calls his "Well, well, you and this Ads arc the same size!" 1 a u km : . Denecke. Judge Denecke is now a jus tice of the Oregon Supreme cabbage we got in the Classified of Music and IS years at the McCormick-Dccring Tractor company. General Motors will retain a team of composers who will produce assembly line sym phonies, one scoring the sharps, another adding the llats, etc. Staff composers in the con struction industry will create such things as "Fugue For Flute, Harpsicord and Riveting P'y will give us "The Leaking Faucet Overture," featuring three trombones and a sump pump. It all adds up to an exciting prospect, musically speaking, I'm just sorry that Beethoven 'couldn't have lived to see it. Court. In handing down its decision, the high court modified Judge Denecke's original ruling, and strengthened it to eliminate am biguities. The Oregon State Bar appeal ed the decision against Execu tive Estate Planners, Inc., and asked that the lower court rul ing be strengthened. The lower court found that an officer of Executive Estate Plan ners, who was not a lawyer, was giving legal advice relating to estates. The firm also engaged in the insurance business, and said that estate planning was an incidental activity. To eliminate the ambiguity of the lower court decree, the Su preme Court substituted a de cree to the effect that Execu tive Estate Planners were en joined from preparing estate plans embodying legal analysis, either as a separate service or as an incident to carrying on the insurance business. In other action, the State Su preme Court: Upheld a Deschutes County Circuit Court ruling of Judge Robert H. Foley in an action to recover possession of real property. Upheld action by Marion County Circuit Judge Val D. Sloper in dismissing a complaint which sought to have parts of the Oregon occupational disease law declared unconstitutional. Affirmed a decision by Til lamook County Circuit Judge J. S. Bohannon in an action involv ing ownership of a bulldozer.
