Showing the greatest sirengin in categories ware HEY8ELL ATTENDS DEALER SESSION IN DETROIT Russ Heysell of Courtesy Chevrolet in Medford was among 7,000 Chevrolet dealers and dealership executives in Detroit recently to attend the largest convention of its kind ever held in the auto industry. While in the Motor City, dealers previewed the spectacu lar new lines of 1964 Chevrolet cars and trucks to be intro duced early this fall. Arriving in Detroit at the rate of about 1.400 a day, the dealer guests were welcomed by top Chevrolet officials in eluding Simon E. Knudsen, a General Motors vice president and general manager or the division, and Larry Averill, gen eral sales manager. Citing Chevrolet's all-time high rate of sales thus far this year, the two executives told dealers that the division expects to surpass in 1963 its record performance in 1962 when Chevrolet set new industry sales marks. As a highlight of the convention programs, dealers were the new car and truck models edy production. A further feature was a neering and auto shows exhibits which filled the mammoth Cobo Hall exposition center. In addition to being the largest and most elaborate of convention marked the first time since 1936 that dealers had an event by Chevrolet. DEPARTMENT STORES years, department stores have been diversifying into scores of new services to increase their profits, reports The New York Times. Podiatrists, masseurs and optometrists are among the new breed of store employees. Big retailers as well as small retailers are of fering lending libraries, prescription drugs, mutual fund fice equipment rentals to attract additional customers. Ernest A. Miller, president of O'Shaughnessy, Dewes fc Klein, Inc., said: "Services account for approximately 3 to 4 of total sales, thereby leaving a great potential for growth." 1964 CHRYSLER - PLYM ly remained about the same as a year ago. Leading men's specially shops in Atlanta said volume, was up 3 to 5 in the downtown area and as much as 20 in the shopping centers. Profits were also up con siderably with increased volume and a general trading up. In Chicago, virtually all spe cialty stores say sales are up, the average increase being some 8. Retailers are crediting the "young man's" trade with boosting volume. More stores are featuring lines to attract college age men. AMERICAN MOTORS BUILDS PORTLAND BUILDING-In a major expansion move American Motors now is constructing a new office building and parts warehouse here to house its Portland Zone. Completion of the new facility i scheduled for late October, according to R. D. Gal lacher, zone manager. The zone covers Rambler dealers in Oregon, Washington, northern Idaho and Alaska. The new and larger warehouse will provide quicker, more efficient parts delivery service to the zone's dealers. normal stocks earned by dealers. The magazine says this fact helps, to explain why the typical shopping center drugstore achieved a bigger increase both in the number of prescriptions filled and in dollar volume on prescriptions than did the typical pharmacy not located in a shopping center. The 5,970 drug stores located in shopping centers represent more than 1 out of every 10 drug stores of total retail drug business. Three Accidenfs Are Reported to Police A car driven by Gene Ewen Jr., 41, of 115 Winter si., Salem, went off the shoulder of Highway 99 and hit a tree between Phoenix and Talent yesterday, slate police report ed. The driver was not in jured, but the car was ex tensively damaged. Cars driven by Creighton Phillip Horton, 19, Grants Pass, and Paul Herford Schaeffer, 18, of 705 Sterling rd., Jacksonville, collided at Vashti Way and the Jackson ville highway yesterday, slate police said. No injuries re sulted and only minor damage to both cars.
