HEY8ELL ATTENDS DEALER SESSION IN DETROIT
Russ Heysell of Courtesy Chevrolet in Medford was
among 7,000 Chevrolet dealers and dealership executives in
Detroit recently to attend the largest convention of its kind
ever held in the auto industry.
While in the Motor City, dealers previewed the spectacu
lar new lines of 1964 Chevrolet cars and trucks to be intro
duced early this fall.
Arriving in Detroit at the rate of about 1.400 a day, the
dealer guests were welcomed by top Chevrolet officials in
eluding Simon E. Knudsen, a General Motors vice president
and general manager or the division, and Larry Averill, gen
eral sales manager.
Citing Chevrolet's all-time high rate of sales thus far this
year, the two executives told dealers that the division expects
to surpass in 1963 its record performance in 1962 when
Chevrolet set new industry sales marks.
As a highlight of the convention programs, dealers were
the new car and truck models
edy production.
A further feature was a
neering and auto shows exhibits which filled the mammoth
Cobo Hall exposition center.
In addition to being the largest and most elaborate of
convention marked the first time since 1936 that dealers had
an event by Chevrolet.
DEPARTMENT STORES
years, department stores have been diversifying into scores of new services to increase
their profits, reports The New York Times. Podiatrists, masseurs and optometrists are
among the new breed of store employees. Big retailers as well as small retailers are of
fering lending libraries, prescription drugs, mutual fund
fice equipment rentals to attract additional customers. Ernest A. Miller, president of
O'Shaughnessy, Dewes fc Klein, Inc., said: "Services account for approximately 3 to 4
of total sales, thereby leaving a great potential for growth."
1964 CHRYSLER - PLYM
ly remained about the same as
a year ago. Leading men's specially shops in Atlanta said volume, was up 3 to 5 in the
downtown area and as much as 20 in the shopping centers. Profits were also up con
siderably with increased volume and a general trading up. In Chicago, virtually all spe
cialty stores say sales are up, the average increase being some 8. Retailers are crediting
the "young man's" trade with boosting volume. More stores are featuring lines to attract
college age men. They seem to be the most active customers and catering to them has in
creased sales, merchants say.

for a wedding display or promotion. Some of the chapter-headings in the book would
make terrific window copy. For instance: "Come into my parlor" for a display of at

"PUSH BUTTON" CLEANING NEWEST IN SHOW
ER HEADS-Moen Faucet, manufacturers of the original
one-handle mixing faucets for kitchens and baths, has
just introduced a new shower head that cleans itself of
sediment and dirt when you push the button on the face.
Just push the button with the spray on and the
shower head cleans itself completely internally. Holes will
not remain clogged and the double O spray pattern will
remain uniform and ideal for stimulating showering.
The new Moen shower head is handsomely designed
with smooth, modern lines for a streamlined appearance
that matches the unique Moen one-handle shower mixing
valve. The spray former is made of genuine DuPont Del
rin and resists liming and residue buildup. There is a ball
swivel adustment that adjusts
angle. And all metal is triple chorme-plated brass for a
long-life sparkling finish. The standard Vi" inlet makes
installation easy on any shower arm.

centers has increased by 144 7o over the same period,
from 4,025 in 1959 to 9,829 in 1963. The magazine says
this fact helps, to explain why the typical shopping
center drugstore achieved a bigger increase both in the number of prescriptions filled
and in dollar volume on prescriptions than did the typical pharmacy not located in a
shopping center. The 5,970 drug stores located in shopping centers represent more than
