Clyde Fichtner warned today. There were 220 people in jured in 454 Oregon accidents over the Labor Day holiday last year, Fichtner said. Six people were killed. Safety officials at the local and state level are urging drivers to shield themselves from traffic trouble as they leave Friday or Saturday for recreation areas around th state. Police agencies, at usual, will operate at full patrol strength giving special em phasis to violations known to contribute to accidents, Ficht ner said. Traffic deaths in Oregon are running 22.1 per cent ahead of last year. Fichtner contended that many of these deaths could have been pre vented by exercise of common sense and courtesy behind the wheel.
