OREGON years old. He also lived in To ledo, Lansing and Detroit. He had remained active in the automotive field in recent years and had just completed a design for an improved Jeep seat. At the lime of his death Probst was working on a design for a two-cycle auto mobile engine. In 1940 he was asked to design a small military per sonnel carrier that would be better than one the Germans had. As a consulting engineer for the Bantam Car Co. of Butler, Pa., he drew the plans for the Jeep in seven days. As a high school student at Columbus, Ohio, he built one of the four cars in the city in 1901. In 1932 Probst formed his own consulting firm. He lived much of his life in Detroit, and was a design consultant to Chalmers, Dodge, Chrysler. Reo, Kaiser and other motor car companies. He gained a reputation as a strong advo cate of light cars.
