His subject will be "Winning by Losing," based upon the Scripture reference, Matthew 16:24-26. Evangelist Corwin, with Mrs. Corwin and their three children, are in Medford this week completing final ar rangements for their move to Portland. First In Series Is Planned Sunday "What Do You Worship?" will be the first sermon in a series of many on the Ten Commandments given by the Rev. Gilbert O. Skaar, pas tor of the First Southern Bap tist church, on Sunday. The topic on Sunday eve ning, "Victory Over Tempta tion," will end the series on the Lord's Prayer. Dennis Samples will lead the congre gational singing at both ser vices. After the Sunday morning service, a potluck picnic will be held at Jackson Hot Springs. Grace Lutheran To Hold One Service Ashland - Grace Lutheran church, Frances lane, Ash land, will return to one ser vice, at 11 a.m., Sunday, ac cording to the Rev. The Corwins have been Medford residents for the past two years, and have conduct ed evangelistic services here and in Central Point and Shady Cove. The Sidney Nel sons, who were associated with the Corwins in the meet ings, are remaining in Med ford, with Mr. Nelson assist ing Elder A. P. Ritz in the pastorship of the Medford and Shady Cove churches. Dedicatory Services Church members are invit ed to attend dedicatory serv ices for the Williams Seventh- day Adventist church at o.m. Saturday. Oregon conference officials present for the event will be Elder H. L. Rudy, president. Elder Loyd Biggs, past presi dent, now heading the Re ligious Liberty department lor the Union conference, and V. J. Jester, secretary-treasur er. Also present will be Elder Turner, former pastor of the Grants Pass and Williams church. Elder Turner is now pastor of the Sunnyside church In Portland. Among musical selections for the afternoon will be a solo by Elder Turner, and vo cal duets by Alvy Bowman and Leonard Yost. According to John Meehan, building committee chairman, the land upon which the new building stands was donated, and church construction was by members. The church, which has seating capacity of 60, is of frame construction finished in light green stucco. A small church school building has also been completed on the grounds which have been landscaped with shrubs and flowers. Saturday afternoon services will be held outside to accom modate visitors. New Minister Expected at BF Butte Falls - The Rev, James Powers, Phoenix, Ariz., is expected to speak from the pulpit of the Butte Falls Com munity Bible church Sunday morning as the new pastor of the church. Mr. and Mrs. Powers and their four children are to ar rive in Butte Falls, today or Saturday. There will be a potluck luncheon for the Powers at the close of the Sunday morn ing worship service. Each one attending is to take table ser vice. During the interim since Rev. Robert Daniels family moved to the new Dilley com munity near Forest Grove, two field representatives of Village Missions, Miss Helen E. Nichols and Miss Erma Loomer have been serving as pastors. Church improvements this summer include new noor finishes in t h e social room and kitchen as well as the new outside paint on the en tire church. The present par sonage has also been redec orated. Central Church To Hear Assistant Joel Stlth, summer assist ant minister at Central Church of Christ, will be the speaker there Sunday at the 11 a.m. worship hour. His topic will be "Pathways of Progression." Mr. Stlth will return soon to San Jose, Calif., Bible college as a jun ior student. SMITH Here From Roieburg Youth Evangelism Campaign Planne Aug. 28, 29 and 30 have been set aside for a youth evangelistic campaign by Churches of Christ in Med ford, Central Point, Phoenix and Ashland. James C. Smith minister of the First Christian church, Roseburg, will be the featured speaker each eve ning. The theme of the cru sade is "Youth Takes A Stand." Wednesday, Aug. 28, the program will be held at the Phoenix Church of Christ First and B sts., with the Cen tral Point Church of Christ as co-host. Central Church of Christ, ' 1440 South Oakdale ave., Medford, will host the Thursday, Aug. 29, program The final program will be Friday, Aug. 30, at the Church of Christ, Second and B sts., Ashland. An activity period will be held each day at 6:30 p. m. At 8 p.m. the service of sing ing, other music and sermon will begin. Song leader will be Carl Unruh, with Everett Cade at the piano. Young people of Junior high, High school and college age from the other churches of the valley have been in vited to share in the crusade. A group from the Christian Churches, Klamath Falls, will participate Friday evening. St. Luke's Church Slates Lay Leader Charles E. Henry, lay lead er of St. Luke's Methodist church, will preside over the service of morning worship Sunday in the absence of the pastor, the Rev. Charles R. McDonald, who is on va cation. Mr. Henry will be assisted by Ralph Humphrey, the church organist. During the service Mr. Humphrey will play: "Priere" by Solome, Elevation' by Kumstedt, and "Postlude in D" by Scarmolin. Youth Groups To Hold Rally Monday Christ Ambassador youth groups from Assemblies of God In the Rogue valley sec tion will hold a rally at the city park in Gold Hill on Aug. 26 at 7:30 p.m. The outdoor rally will be under the direction of the Rev. Oliver Summers, Jack sonville. Speaker for the eve ning will be the Rev. Andrew Slack, Kerby. The Jacksonville Assembly of God choir will present sev eral anthems under the direc tion of Mrs. Summers. An in strumental trio from Med- ford's First Assembly, con sisting of Robert Heide, Rob ert M. Cull, and James Hicks, will be featured in various trumpet numbers. The public is invited to attend. MEDFORD 1st Baptist To Be Dedicated August 25 Dedication activities for the new First Baptist church buildings will begin Sunday at 3 p.m. with a dedication service. The buildings, de signed by Edson and Pappas, architects, and constructed by Frank Fairweather, con tractor, were recently com pleted and have been in use for the past two weeks, Dr. E. P. Fosmark, general director of the conservative Baptist Association of Ore gon, will be the speaker for the dedication service. The Gospelaircs men's quartet will sing and Mrs. Donn Piatt will be soloist The chapel choir will sing "Bless This House." The contractor will present the keys to the building to the chairman of the building committee who will then for mally turn the building over to the board of trustees of the church. Following the dedication service refresh ments will be served and guests will be invited to tour the buildings. Open house will be held for the general public on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of next week from 7 to 9 p.m. Hostesses will be present to conduct tours through the building and refreshments will be served each evening. Wednesday evening there will be a dedication dinner for the members of the church at 6:30 p.m. At this dinner, recognition will be paid to the building commit tee consisting of Clem Ault, chairman, Don Minear, Al bert Gandt, Newt Mead and Monroe McGonagle. Methodists Tell 01 Activities "Where is Thy God, My Soul?" is the subject of the Rev. Gerald C. Nelson's ser mon at First Methodist church Sunday. He will be assisted by Robert Sage. Junior High Fellowship RLDS Schedules Guest Speaker Elder Art Jory, Grants Pass, will be guest speaker Sunday for the 11 a.m. serv ice at the Medford branch of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, corner of Tenth and Ivy sts. Mr. Jory is an active priesthood member. Branch elections will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church, with Elder Wen dell Fullerton in charge of the meeting. CHURCH NEWS National Religious Publicity Council will hold its annual Fall roundup starting Sunday at 3 p.m. and meeting each eve ning through Thursday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The week will conclude with a retreat to the coast Friday and Satur day. Brown, second counselor in the pre siding bishopric of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Salt Lake City, will preside at a quarterly con ference of the Klamath Stake Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 24 and 25, in Klamath Falls. Accompanying Elder Brown will be Elders Delbert F. Wright, a member of the priesthood home teaching committee and Warren E. Pugh, of the missionary com mittee. Bishop Brown, a native of Cardston, Alberta, Canada, was an executive of United Air Lines at the time of his appointment to the presiding bishopric in 1961. He is ex perienced in youth, church, and business leadership. Elders Wright and Pugh will address meetings for priesthood and missionary leaders on Saturday. Two Services Set At St. Peter's "Two Kinds of Church Peo ple" is the topic of the ser mon for Sunday's two serv ices chosen by the Rev. John E. Simon, pastor of St. Peter's Lutheran church, 1020 East Main st. The services begin at 8:15 and 11 a.m. Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m. A number of St. Peter's' young people will leave Sat urday for a week of church camp sponsored by the Inter national Walthcr League at Camp Dead Indian Soda Springs above Lake Creek. The camp will continue until Friday afternoon, Aug. 30. Willetta Eubanks, a mem ber of St. Peter's church and a recent graduate of Medford high, left Aug. 16 for Lake Chelan, Wash., to attend a young people's work camp at Holden Village sponsored by the International Walther League of The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. She plans to return early next month. Pastor Simon will return this evening from Portland where he is attending the fiscal conference of the North west District of his denomi nation held at the campus of Concordia college. Pastor 'Teach Me To Is 1st Christian Sublet Teach Me To Pray, Lord is the title of the sermon which the Rev. Fredrick Ross Evans will preach at the serv ices Sunday morning at the First Christian church. It is based on Luke 11:1. Mrs. Ralph Matlack will sing "I'll Walk With God" at both the services. Mrs. Edward Conner Jr. and Mrs. A. L. Paul will be hostesses at the coffee hour following the second service. At 6 p.m. Sunday there will be an all-church patio supper with the Delbert Troxell fanv ily as guests. Following the supper they will show pictures and talk of their work in Japan. Mr. and Mrs. Troxell went to Japan in 1953 as mission aries. For the first five years they worked in rural areas near Rifu. Here in addition to their regular church ministry, they helped develop model farms, conducted youth train ing centers and taught the women such things as cook ing and canning. For the past five years they have been sta tioned at Gose in the Nara Ken prefecture where they work with the ministers and churches in the field of evan gelism under the direction of the Kyodan, the United Church of Christ in Japan. They will live in Eugene for a year while they are on fur lough. Mr. Troxell is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Trox ell, 1833 South Peach st. Monday Miss Gloria Hag- Guest Speaker In Jacksonville Jacksonville "The Truth That Sets Us Free" is the title of the sermon to be preached by Dawson Wilke in the First Presbyterian church, Jack sonville, Sunday at 11 a.m. Mr. Wilke, who is a student at San Francisco Theological seminary and summer assist ant at the Westminster Pres byterian church, is preaching in the absence of the Rev. King 11. Jones, who is on vacation. Mrs. Gaynor Huck will be the guest organist during the service. 'Tithing' Is Topic Of Emphasis At First Nazarene "Tithing Puts God First" is the sDecial five-week em phasis now being carried out at the First Churcn ot tne Nazarene, 520 North Holly st. This early fall stewardship program is being promoted by the laymen of the church. John Finkbeiner is the pro motion chairman and Lisle Young is general director of the campaign. The pastor, the Rev. Harold M. Sanner, is following the stewardship theme in the 11 a.m. messages. His subject Sunday morniing will be "The Fruit of Faithfulness". An un usual feature in the main Sunday services, 11 a.m., and 7 p.m., are four-minute testi monials by chosen laymen. The pastor's topic for the eve ning service is "An Accept able Troublemaker." Perry Christiansen, minister of music and education, has announced the music for the services. Soloist for the morn ing service will be Robert Hansen and a duet will be presented by Mr. Hansen and George McUne. Music for the evening service will include a . duet by Mrs. Rex Goble and Mrs. Rex Vowell, and a tenor solo by Jackson Phil lips. The Oregon Pacific Distrtict youth camps are now being held at the district center in Clackamas, Ore. This week the camp for youth of 15 years and up is being held. The Tween Teen camp for young people between the ages of 12 and 14 will be held Aug. 26 through 31, and a Young Adult retreat is planned for the Labor Day week end.
