MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE. MEDFOHD. OREGON Fashions for Sleep Are Now Stylish . Men will be yawning, stretching and snoring in a wide variety of gleepwear this fall. Pajamas have gone stylish for men - the plain old pi's are almost gone and in their place are night fashions along the mandarin lines, shlrt-jacs, oriental raps, lounge suits and updated night shirts. Balbriggan knit ski pajam as follow the ski influence that's so big in both men's women's fashions. This style is neat, smart and warm. To cover up his handsome sleepwear, a man will have a wide choice in robes, too. The shave coat in corduroy, terry and other favored fab rics will be popular. In the classic styles, there Is a lot of news in the pat terns and colors. They are far more exciting than in the past. ' . Hubby needs these new look loungers and bedtime fashions, because his lady is going to be all dressed up at home this coming season. THURSDAY, AUGUST 22. 1963 I ' - i OFFICERS ELECTED Coos Bay - (UP1) - Lavern Banks of Portland has been elected president of the Ore gon Federated Order of the Eagles at the group's conven tion here. Mrs. Mable Thomas of Tillamook was chosen to head the women's auxiliary. 17 W: ,1 Hopes Dashed for Higher Dividend New York -OIPD- Hopes of more than 2,200,000 stock holders of American Tele phone & Telegraph Co. that they might be in line for a higher dividend were dashed Wednesday when the world's biggest corporate entity an nounced no change in the pay ment rate. The AT&T directors voted to continue paying the 90 cents a share which has been paid since July, 1961 when the dividend was raised from 82 '4 cents. The latest divi dend is payable Oct. 1 to hold ers of record Aug. 30. However, Wall Street fore saw the possibility of an in crease in the dividend later this year if the giant utility's rise to the estimated $6 a share for all of this year com pared with $5.79 last year. ' TALL MIRRORS You can see something new in dressing tables, through the looking glass! Many of the dressers this fall feature two tall slim mirrors, rather than one over-all mirror. Edited by Mrs. A.raa Denny. (Copyrlih; by General Features corp.) I know what will the party and I Drew O. happen at won't go. Hilda W.-How will it look? He lives two doors away! e e Drew O. - My sister won't take No for an answer to her garden party invitation for Labor Day. But I refuse to be bored. She's rounding up the family and her married friends, who talk about noth ing but their children and their spouses. Since I have neither, I don't, fit in. I'd rather be alone or track down some unencumbered adults who meet me on equal terms, person-to-person. Hilda W. - It will look mighty peculiar to have Drew rocking on a porch two doors from my home witli the rest of the family at my party. He'll be annoyed more by everyone calling him to find out why he won't come over than by attending and endur- NEW BAG - Joanne Woodward, starring in Paramount's pro duction "A New Kind of Love," shows the new look in hand bags for fall. When he wearies of listening, he can have a ball talking about himself. Tha Council: Some people, when you ask "What's new with you?", tell you of a book they're reading, a deal they closed, a trip they've planned. Others tell you that Susie got an A in Spanish, Snooky cut a tooth, and you must hear Junior play "Over the Waves." Drew turns a spot light on the latter. While he is wont to answer a fair ques tion fairly, he resents the evasions of those who duck (conversationally) behind the little darlings in their family . . . As hostess, it's Hilda's job to assemble homogeneous guests (al bursting with pride over progeny, for instance) or, more important for Drew, sensitive people who seek out a common frame of refer ence and help build a fruitful exchange of ideas. If she can promise one or two "surprise" visitors who talk man-to-man (or, better, woman-to-man), we advise him to attend. And if, perchance, he gets stuck with someone who "changes the subject" via snapshots of the High, High Boot Popular for Girls For school or play, the ankle-high-or higher-leather boot Is a girl's best friend. Soft, light and pretty on the foot, the "sportive" leather boot gives her a sense of fash ion while It protects her In changeable fall weather. , As popular with little girls as with their teen sisters and mothers, leather boots come in every height to set off bright plaid skirts or long slim pants. At the low end of the scale Is the bootlet with a high rising tongue, one or two-eyelet tie and soft brushed or grained leather. The bootlet is as low in back as the ox ford. The next size boot which reaches for the ankle but doesn't quite make it is higher in back too and often has a folded cuff in a differ ent shade or texture of lea ther.
