Schmidt, who is blind, dived Into the family swimming pool and, guided by instructions from his wife who is a poor swimmer, was able to find and pull his uncon scious daughter from the deep end of the pool. He applied mouth-to-mouth resusciation until lie knew she was all right. (UPI) WCA Review by CAB Requested Salem - (UPD - Two state agencies have asked the Civ il Aeronautics board to re view Its order which would have eliminated West Coast Airlines service in Salem, Lakeview and Bums. The petition to the CAB was sent by Public Utility Suspects Held Hagerman, Idaho fUPB Deputy Sheriff Vern Royse planned to question two sus pects at Burley today about the roadside robbery - mur der of a Portland, Ore., man near here Monday night. Tuesday, Royse ordered re lease of two suspects picked up at Boise. He said he was convinced they were not con nected with the crime. Meantime, officers awaited arrlvel in Gooding of George Owen, Portland, believed to be foreman of the victim. Of ficers tentatively have ident ified the dead man as Richard A. Herald, 31, Portland, but were awaiting Owen's arriv al to make positive identifi cation. The victim was found Mon day evening in a pickup at a roadside park about 2Vi miles south of here on U.S. Highway 30. An autopsy dis closed he had been shot twice in the head with a .22 or .25 caliber weapon. The murder weapon was not found. Royse said he believed rob bery was the motive for the crime. Officers found $11 In the man's clothing but his wallet wrs missing. Five Small Fires Doused in Oregon Snlcm-flJPD-Flve small fires In Oregon forests were quick ly brought under control Tuesday, the Slate Forestry Department reported today All were man-caused and the largest was confined to half an acre. Three were In the South east Oregon district, where one was caused by a smoker and another by a train. A careless smoker caused one Central Oregon district fire and the cause of one in the Northwest has not been identified. Neither the U. S. Forsat Service nor the Bureau of Land Management In Portland reported any major fires In the state this morning. Commissioner Jonel C. Hill and the State Board of Aero nautics. The CAB order on West Coast's operations was sched uled to go into effect next week, but the petitions from the state agencies and sever al Oregon cities will delay its implementation. BLM Appoints New Eugene Manager Portland-OTP - Joseph C. Dose, a member of the for estry staff at the Bureau of Land Management's Washing ton, D.C., office, has been ap pointed manager of the Eu gene District. The appointment was an nounced Tuesday by BLM State Director Russell E. Getty. Dose succeeds Lester Dunn, who becomes chief of the di vision of range and forest management for the BLM In California. The new director was a forester in the Coos Bay district In 1952 and later headed the forestry unit in that district.
