2 C . ' ' 'hi', Mri. R. Wedding in Of Interest From Germany came news last week of the marriage of Miss Carolyn Lois Miller and Capt. R. L. Smith. The wed ding ceremony was performed June 35 in the Nurnberg Post chapel of the U. S. Army at Furth, Bavaria. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence L. Miller, 2200 Ruhl Way, Med ford, who has been in Nurin burg teaching children of the American Army personnel sta tioned there. The bridegroom's parents are Dr. and Mrs. G V. Smith, Cleveland, Ohio. Capt. Robert W. Rlppe, in terdenominational mini ster for the 20th Station hospital .chapel, performed the 1:30 o'clock afternoon ceremony. Wolrad Pflurker, Nurnberg, gave the bride in marriage. Her floor, length aheath gown was of lace over taffeta with overskirt of nylon chiffon. Her fingertip length veil was of silk net held from a lotus flower crown and she carried a bouquet of white carnations Miss Ann Moldenschardt, Erlanger, Germany, also an American teacher, was the honor attendant. Her street length sheath dress was of pink pea a de sole and her flowers were pink carnations. . Lt, Paul Mitchell, was best man, and ushering were Lt. Constantino Kalandros and Lt. Phillip Darlenzo, all Nurn berg. Vases of pink and white carnations with potted hy drangeas and gloxinia decor ated the altar. The reception held in the Kolb Officers club and the ceremony were attended by some 60 guests. She taught In the Parkrose DUbliC School in Portland ho. fore accepting the overseas' position with the Department of Defense, and plans to teach in Nurnberg another year while Captain Smith com pletes his duties with the Army. Cluff, 175 Meade street, was announced rec ently. Miss George was graduated from Ashland High school In June. Her fiance' graduated from Mesa, Ariz., High school and afterward attended the state university. Ho has been a student at Southern Ore gon college for the past year and pUns to complete his degree at the University of Southern California. Plans are beinir mnrte fe a September wedding to be solemnized in a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints temple. Mr. Cluff serv ed as a missionary for the church In Norway for two and a half years. Return Ashland - The Rev. and Mrs. John Thnmnsnn nnrl children. Crescent City, Calif., were among former Ashlund ers returning for the Fourth or juiy ccicnration. Mr Thompson was rector of Trin Ity Episcopal church for a number of years. Fund-Raising Benefit Rogue Gallery A fund-raising parly spon sored by the Rogue Valley Art association for the mod ernization of the Rogue Gal lery will be held Friday, July IB, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. S. V. Carpenter, "Topsldcs," Old Stage road. Because admission is lim ited to 100 persons, reserva tions may be mailed to the gallery, Box 763, Medford, by July 12, according to par ty chairman, Robertson E. Collins. Funds raised from the ad mission charge and the sale of script for refreshments, will be used to cover the cost of paint, new wall coverings, and improved lighting. An auction of art works created by members of the association board of directors will be a feature at the party. Eugene Bennett, Jacksonville artist, will Bet as chairman of the auction. Guests will al.vo be able to swim, play badminton or ping pong. Bride-Elect Honored at Luncheon ' Miss Roberta Slceter, bride elect of Edward G. 'Foxley Jr., Portland, was honored at a bridal shower and luncheon given recently by Miss Lou Elsa Vocgtly In the Rogue Valley Country club. The luncheon table decora tions were In pink and white Decorations included a pink nosegay with an umbrella tree and smaller bouquets of pink sweetpeas and white daisies in . miniature white sprinkling cans. . ; The guests included the bride-elect's mother, Mrs. Robert W. Slceter; Mrs. Don ald D. McLaughlin, Mrs. Monty C. Penwcll, Mrs. Tom D. Laurance, Mrs. Robert W Vocgtly and the Misses Judy Christenscn, Jacklyn Creagcr, Judy Potter, Bonnie Van Dyke, Judy Bell, Karen Car penter, Joyce Pearson, Mira Frohnmayer and Patricia Campbell. The bride-elect also is daughter of the late Dr. Rob ert W. Sleetcr. Mr. Foxley . is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward G. Foxley, Salem. The wedding date has been sot for July 26. Miss Slceter is a Univer slty of Oregon graduate with a degree of medical technol ogy. The bridegroom-elect, a Willamette university grad uate, completed his sopho more year this spring at the university of Oregon medical school. Blind Tenor Will Appear 1 In Concert Ashland - Carlton Eldrldge, a tenor, will appear at South ern Oregon college Tuesday, July 9, at 1 p.m. in Churchill auditorium. For the past 14 years he has been in charge of vocal work at Springfield Junior college where, besides teaching voice, he directs several choirs and assists in the production of operas. He received his bach elor of music' and master of music degrees at Michigan Stale university and did ad vanced study at State Univer sity of Iowa. Although being without sight, he does not consider blindness a handicap. All of his work, including the direc tion of choral music, is done from spoclajly. prepared Braille scores. Townspeople are invited to attend the assembly free of charge. Ceremony Held n Navy Chapel Ashland - In a ceremony performed June 28 In the U.S. Navy chapel, Pcnsacola, Fla., Cecilia Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. O. Anderson, 710 Pennsylvania avenue, Ashland, became the bride of Michael A. Watts. The bride groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Lester Watts, Oakrldge, Ore. Mr. and Mrs. Watts arc both Ashland High school graduates and Mrs. Watts at tended Southern Oregon col lege for one year. Mr. Watts is on the admin istrative staff of the U. S. Naval hospital. Ashland Girl Receives Grant Ashland - Miss Betty Mar tin, 1963 Ashland High school graduate, has received word thathe has been award ed one of the state scholar ships, a cash one-year grant that may be used In any ac credited Oregon college or university, Miss Martin, who is the daughter of Mr and Mrs. Clifford McLean, 117 Almond street, plans to enter the Uni versity of Oregon in Sep tember. Alaskan Guests Leave for Home Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Oustcr hout and children, Dianne and Sally, left Saturday for their home in Ketchikan, Alaska, after a visit with relatives in the valley, Mr. Ousterhout. the son of G. E. Ousterhout, Dutton road, completed his master's degree in June at the University of Hawaii. His wife, the former Ann Peterson of Portland, completed her master's de gree, also, and will be dean of girls at Ketchikan High school this fall. Part of that crew were at North's Chuck Wagon restaurant last Sunday when Mr. and Mrs. John North and Mrs. Eleanor Edmonds entertained company members at dinner. Central Concert Announced The world famous Portland Symphony orchestra will pre sent a concert at Hedrick Jun ior High gymnasium Wednes day, October 16, under the sponsorship of the Organized Commuters of Southern Ore gon college, Ashland, who will use the profit for a scholar ship fund. The orchestra, which will appear for the first time in this area, will present a mat inee at 3:45 p.m. followed by an evening performance at 8:15 p.m. After 96 years and 14 con ductors, the orchestra has gained national recognition under the conductorship of Jacques Singer. The Portland Symphony has lately traveled to many cities.
