A trio of perfect travelers for any itinerary .-By Harburt. iWash, Wear Hints : Caution Wearers 'Z Wash-and-wear fabrics real :iy come into their own in summertime. They also come in for some hard knocks from some home-makers you say these so-called "easy care" fabrics ; don't always live up to their -names. Getting best results from .'wash -and -wear depends on .-two things, according to the ;?Maytag Home Service depart ment. First, buying the right .kind of garment, and second, .knowing how to care for it lonce you've got it. When it comes to buying ;;wash-and-wear clothes, keep the following points in mind. .' The I960 Textile Label ling Act requires that garment Jllabels show generic names for ":the fabric type. Look for the ,"-n a m e s "acetate," "acrylic" and "polyester." Each is a -:type of synthetic. You'll get the maximum in wash-and-wear characteristics from a "tgarment made of 100 per cent '-synthetic fabric. Alternative wash - and - wear choices are iblends of at least 50 per cent 'synthetic fabric. Most important step for good wash-and-wear results, laccording to Maytag, comes iwith drying. 1 For best results, they should be dried on the "Wash -n Wear" setting of the dryer. iThis not only dries the fabric, ibut is geared to reach a tem--perature that will actually Crelax the wrinkles right out 'oi the fabric. Four southern states, the .-Carolinas, Georgia and Ala bama, account for more than .-two-thirds of the total value fof board woven goods in cot ,ton manufacturing in the U.S. Nothing takes to thi out doors like steel-be it furni ture, play equipment or even decoration. Proof is on display at the Home of Steel, part of an industry-wide steel exhibit at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry, sponsored by American Iron and Steel In stitute. The building and decorat ing ideas incorporated in the "Home of Steel" can be util ized by today's modern fami lies who want the best in liv ing at a moderate cost. Classic Favorites Light weight tubular steel is perfect for outdoor furni-ture-and indoors too for that matter. Steel filigree, mesh and S-shaped furniture are classic favorites. The durabil ity of steel furniture is en hanced even further by new finishes, such as vinyl-coated. It resists wear for years in all types of weather. The beauty of steel furni ture is its delicate and grace ful appearance. Yet, it is stur dily constructed without the handicap of additional weight. Versatility is another great advantage of steel furniture. It can be adapted to innumer able designs and finishes. With steel you can get a vari ety of designs that would not be as readily achieved in oth er metals. Boasts Furniture The outdoor furniture at the Home of Steel boasts ele gant garden furniture. When buying playground equpiment, be certain to look for steel in major and minor components. In addi tion, they are maintenance free and will give years of service without the necessity of ever taking them indoors. The decorations you use on your patio make it uniquely your own, just as much as the decor of your home. And here too steel sets a scene of ele gance. So whether you want util ity or beauty-or a combina tion of both-you'll find it's all possible with steel. Shortcuts Taken to More Successful Patio Parties "Easy does it" is the secret of "cook-outs" and successful patio parties. Take steps to save work before and after the meal. The clue to cutting down on cleaning up is new cookware that does double duty for cooking and serving. Choose cook and serving pieces such as new Corning Ware saucepans and skillets that go from barbecue pit to picnic table; since these are made of Pyroceram brand glass ceramic, a material that can take extremes in tem perature without breaking, cracking or crazing. Planning ahead will save time and work; you can pre pare food, freeze it in this "wonder" cookware and then place the utensil directly over a flame when you're ready to cook and serve. Detachable handles facilitate cooking, twist off for table service to reveal elegant-looking cas serole dishes. Here are two quick and easy variations on familiar barbecue recipes you may en joy serving: "Specialburgeri" 2 cup tomato catsup 1 teaspoon ground mustard 1 teaspoon salt IVi lbs. ground beef chuck 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce 8 slices salami (about Vi lb.) 1 large sweet onion, sliced 8 buttered sandwich roles Blend mustard, Worcester shire and Tabasco sauce and catsup in 1-pint mixing bowl, work salt into ground beef with a fork. Shape into 8 flat patties. Brown lightly in melt ed fat in a Corning Ware skil let placed directly on the grill over glowing heat. Arrange 4 slices salami in a well-greased Pyroceram brand saucepan. Place a browned hamburger on top of each salami slice. Put 1 tablespoon of Barbecue sauce on each hamburger. Top each with a slice of onion. Repeat, making a second lay er. Cover and place on grill for about 25 minutes; uncover and continue cooking an addi tional 10-15 minutes, until sizzling. Serve in buttered rolls. Sauteed Tomatoes Sprinkle thick-cut tomato slices with salt, pepper, basil, to taste. Place in fat remain ing in Corning Ware skillet used to brown hamburgers, and scar quickly.
