Medford League Plans Foreign Aid Workshop A workshop to study for eign economic aid legislation now before Congress will be held by the League of Women Voters of Medford in July. Four sessions will be held in the Public Library of Med ford and Jackson County on Tuesdays, July 9, 16, 23 and 30 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. The group plans to discuss assets and limitations of the proposed solutions to prob lems of foreign aid and to review the history of League support of foreign economic assistance. Support for the principle of international cooperation goes back more than 40 years, to the earliest days of the League, according to local president, Mrs. Ogden Kel logg, Gold Hill. In the '20s the women of the non-partisan voters group rejected iso lation and proclaimed their recognition of the fact that nations are mutually interde pendent. They also recognized the essential relationship be tween economic health and security of other countries and the United States. Mrs. Frank Bogard is chair man of the Medford League study. Others working on the committee in charge of the workshop include Miss Clara Hinze, Mrs. Dunbar Carpen ter, Mrs. Hugh Collins, Mrs. L. C. Jensen, Mrs. Victor King, Mrs. R. L. Bosworth and Mrs. Kellogg. -t Move Prospect Mr. and Mrs. Andreson and children, for merly of this community, have returned after making their home for the past two years in Eagle Point. They are living along the Red Blanket road. Visit Relatives Hornbrook - Mr. and Mrs. Ardon Burns spent three days last week in San Pablo, Calif., with their daughter and her family, Mr. and Mrs. William Paulsen and three children. I ten days Goodwill Day Program Plan A program is planned in honor of International Good will day at the next meeting of Olive Rebekah lodge, Mon day, July 1 in the Medford Odd Fellows hall. During the last meeting, Mrs. R. L. Appclgate was presented with her commis sion as district deputy presi dent for Olice Rebekah lodge for the coming year. It was also announced that Mrs. Ap pclgate has been appointed chairman of the district UN Pilgrimage committee for the year. Following the meeting members attended Friendship night at Jacksonville. Com mittee in charge of refresh ments for July 1 will be Mrs. Donald M. Ivie, Mrs. E. W. Pease, Mrs. Roberta Daniel and Mrs. Elsa Walker. To Reunion Prospect - Mr. and Mrs. Howard Bishcp Sr. plan to leave soon for New Meadows, Idaho, where they will attend a family reunion. The couple pi-, s to be away for about High Noon Ceremony Weds Pair Ashland - In a hljh noon ceremony June 8 in Trinity Episcopal church, Patricia L. Roach and Ronald A. Sjoland er exchanged marriage vows. The Rev. Duane Alvord offi ciated at the double ring service. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Roach, 1455 Bieber street. Parents of the bridegroom arc Mr. and Mrs. Arlo Sjolandcr, Sa lem. He is a graduate of Ore gon State college and his wife received her degree from Southern Oregon college. In the wedding group were Miss Karen Thomas, Ashland, maid of honor, and Terry Cos settc, Alameda, Calif., a fra ternity brother of the bride groom who served as best man. Guests were seated by Terry Sjolander of Salem, the bridegroom's brother, and Mr. Roach gave his daughter in marriage. The bride wore a sheer white woo! suit with fur col lar and small veiled hat. Her accessories were white and she carried a bouquet of yel low and white roses. Miss Thomas wore a honey beige knit sheath with matching ac cessories and carried a small bouquet of roses. A yellow and white theme accented with coral was used in altar decorations of garden flowers. Kenneth Brew, Cen tral Point, brother-in-law of the bride, was soloist, accom panied at the organ by Mrs. Glenn Taylor. Daughters of American Rev olution, were the guests of the Scott Valley members for its June meeting in Etna. The meeting was held at the Con gregational church. The flower arrangements were of red roses and white phonics. Following the singing of the National anthem Mrs. Lawr ence Lichens read an article about Marian Anderson sing' ing at Constitution hall in Washington, D. C. Persons of all nationalities attend the programs. An article nn national de fense from "The Defender" was read. A collection was taken for the memorial fund and also for "Pennies for Pines." The program consisted of the showing of slides of Ha wan, including sugar cane and pineapple fields and cat tie ranches. There will be no further meetings of the society until September. 7ownsnd Club To Hold luncheon Today A potluck luncheon at noon in Hawthorne park is sched uled for today by the Mt. Pitt chapter, Townsend club. Club members are reminded to take their own table service Earl Barnes of Ashland is the club chairman. Arrangements will be made at today's meeting for the Fourth District council meet ing to be held in Medford Sunday. July 14. Rock Slides To Be Shown At Senior Activity Center Art Techniques Program Topic For Society Jack lectors spoke on painting techniques before Southern Oregon Society of Artists when they met recent ly. He explained that the me dia used, the surfaces on which they are applied and the tools all affect an artist's work. Glenn Scott opened the meeting with a demonstra tion of visual balanced pal ette which he uses in paint ing portraits. All colors used start with the three primary colors and he mixes these to create six different colors and shades for all his portraits, he explained. Clifford Platr, former Med ford artist now of Portland has been invited to exhibit work at the Medford Green wich Village Art show to be held in the West Main street City park, Saturday, July 13, it was announced. Paintings to be on display at the Medford and Jackson County Public library during July are by Mrs. Alton Car ter, Mrs. Joan Bayer, Harry ftlarx, Mrs. Donna Francis Mrs. Viola Moore, Mrs. Ar- lita Pletsch and Mrs. Ruby Twedell. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Evelyn Jenne, Mrs, Sadie Coghill and Mrs. Don na Lantis. Chester Fitch, retired fruit grower and long time member of the Roxy Ann Gem and Mineral society, will show colored slides at the Senior Activity center Monday, July 1, at I p.m. Instead of travel films, this showing will be slides made by mounting thin slices of polished native rock and then projected on the screen. The color, form, and indi vidual design of the heart of the many kinds of rock for mations are said to often ap pear -as scenes, All interested are Invited to attend the weekly pro grams at the center, 601 East Jackson street, each of which is different. Mr. More house now has left to spend the summer traveling in Europe. On her return trip Mrs. Cox visited friends In Santa Barbara and other Cali fornia cities. In O'Brien O'Brien-Mr. and Mrs. Les ley Fostina and family from B a y i i d e, Calif., were in O'Brien last week at the home of Mrs. Fostina's mother, Mrs Victor Hilton. K n u t s o n and Mrs. Judd Greenman, are continuing to plan programs each week and will welcome information about recent travelers who might volunteer to show their pictures. Show SchaduUd The oil painting class, un der the direction of Mrs. Vic toria Staley, has been asked to participate in the Green wich Village show of the Southern Oregon society of Artists in the Medford Li brary park, Saturday, July 13. The group also entered paintings in the exhibit spon sored by the Rogue River Chamber of Commerce dur ing the Rooster Crow Festi val yesterday. The art work was displayed in the elemen tary school cafeteria. The mystery painting, call ed "Mirage," which was on display Saturday, will be shown this week in the win dow of the Colorama shop, 315 East Main street. This composite abstract, paint ed by the whole class, is to be sold for the highest offer and the amount donated to building a larger center. Per sons may write their name and price they are willing to pay for the picture and place it in a box which will be available in the window near the picture. The art class meets each Tuesday afternoon and new members are always welcome. Since Thursday is the Fourth of July, the orchestra will not meet for practice on that day. Members will be no tified if another day Is sched uled. Saturday, July 8, the bridge club will reconvene at 1 p.m., according to L. C. Davis, lead er. Anyone who wishes to brush up on bridge or Is In terested In playing Is wel come to attend. Sojourners Club Plans Are Made; Newcomers Attend Plans were made at last week's Sojourners club meet ing for installation cere monies which will be con ducted July 11. Mrs. Robert Armstrong was Introduced as a new member and two new comers, Mrs. Benjamin Skud larek and Mrs. Neil Packett, were introduced. Visitors attended from Ban- don and Days Creek, Ore., and San Diego, Calif., and Harlowton, Mont. Winners at cards were Mrs. J. S. Goodwin, Mrs. Leland Middleton, Mrs. Letha Craw ford, Mrs. A. P. Collins, Mrs. Ralph Jones and Mrs. Beryl Lyon. Mrs. Asa Lemon won a special prize.
